I am new to this Forum so let me introduce myself here if that is OK? My name is Clayton and I live In British Columbia. We have some nice places to go out here in this part of the world and I am now wanting to do so with a Toyota.

I have had other 4x4.s before all domestic, and I was very surprised at the Toyota Truck my friend purchased. So much so, that I would like to find a 4runner for myself, as that will serve my needs better at this point than a pickup.

I was looking to purchase a 1996 4runner being told that this was the first year for the 3.4 engine, making it a good place to start. Like I said at the beginning I have had other off road vehicles before so the basics I can look for.

What I would like to know is, what should I look for that came from the factory in that year? Such as better axles, lockers, gear ratios etc. Maybe a 1996 is not the best place to start? Any wisdom would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
Shepherds Taxi
