Here is one of my very few complaints regarding my 2001 UZJ100 w/ factory navigation...Why in the world does this thing have a dash mounted cassette player and not at least a single slot CD player!! Is this just me, or does this bother anyone else?? Surely Toyota could have found a vendor to supply a dash mounted CD player to take the place of that ridiculously antiquated tape deck !!!

tape deck? What are those? I laughed when my mom bought her 2005 LS430...thing had a 6 disc in dash changer and a tape deck...oddly enough, she ACTUALLY uses tapes still. Old women never change i guess.

Thou I have yet to listen to a tape in it the tape deck sure comes in handy with a cassestte adapter to listen to MP3's on the IPoD.

i have an AUX input miniplug for that. Tape desk adapters dont have as good a sound quality as an AUX input.

1loudLX, How does the AUX input miniplug work? How do I get one?

Funny, that is the ONLY thing I liked better about the LR3 compared to the Land Cruiser. The LR3 has an AUX input built in. You'd think, for the price, they'd be up on that kind of thing. I haven't had a casset tape in over a decade I think...

Oh well i have an aftermarket Kenwood headunit. When i took the orginal unit out and lost my tape deck, oh NOz! I just took a miniplug to RCA adapter and connected it to the back of my radio.

Maybe the Nav unit you have has an aux input for such a thing. Check with someone who knows more about the stock systems as i have no idea. I mean, there is an "AUX" button on your radio right? or should i say, "Aux" touch on your screen.

Ah, I get it. Nice.

No, there's no AUX button or input. Crazy to me that it's not there given all the other bells and whistles. Seems like such an easy thing. Looks like I'm buying a tape deck adapter... One nice thing though, with a tape deck adapter, we can listen to the Ipod while our daughter listens to "her music" on the CD player using head phones in the back.

Because the target market is the rest of the world and not NA ?

x2

and because there are people who couldn't care less about music and the quality of CD recordings, etc. :shotts:

Personally, I haven't listened to any music in my LC since I got it in Feb 2004.. The radio is usually on local channels or news otherwise I use the CD player and cassette deck mainly to listed to lectures, audio books, etc.

Original fitted cassette with a 2001 Camry CD player... Talking about keeping the OEM look :flipoff2:

Can you retrofit an Aux line to a LC with a nav unit??? From what I understand, a cassette adapter is not as good as an Aux line, but better than a FM transmitter.

Having both tape and CD's available in dash is a feature I really enjoy on my Toyotas. Like siglo I often listen to books, lectures, plays and even the occasional sermon while driving. A lot of these are still put out on tape. It really beats the same 15 songs they play on the music stations and the endless ads.

I probably do need to figure out the new mp3 tech and get an Aux input set up but I would still want to have the ability to play tapes. Is an aux input possible on a 98 style deck?

None of the aftermarket decks have controls nearly as usable as the OEM units and so I hesitate to switch.

I wish now that I had not bought one with navigation. The aftermarket is filled with much better units. I guess it really doesn't matter though. I plan on getting an 08 as long as they don't domesticate it too much !! As far as I am concerned the Range Rover and Land Cruiser are far and away the Best looking SUV designs on the market today.

Back when I purchased my 1991 Toyota Cressida with a Tape and CD player, the first thing I thought was, what the hell am I going to do with a CD player thingamajig? 15 years later, they both work flawlessly and the CD player is used more often ;) I was actually disappointed when I seen that my FJ wasn't available with a Tape player.

When I'm going offroad, I use the tape player. Trust me, CDs don't play quite well offroad, especially the way I drive.

Although there may be more modern aftermarket nav units available, for dashboard integration nothing beats the OEM look (especially after the crappy anti-glare coating is removed, which makes the screen considerably brighter). I only wish the software updates were cheaper. Having to take out the 6 disk magazine to put in a new CD is a pain, but I wouldn't give up the cassette player unless there was a "line in" for my IPod.
