Anyone got one of these things?
http://www.harborfreight.com/a-c-manifold-gauge-set-92649.html

Seems as if a few of us need to get together and acquire one of these things and then have a work party! I actually need the RV dash AC done, so maybe we can have a work day out at Cramalot. There's plenty of space to park and charge our systems correctly.
Who's interested and in?!

I'm in... If we can get Brad to show us how..

I've got the tools. If I can't make the party y'all are more than welcome to use them. Clank it is easy to use all you are looking for is no air in the sight bubble and the pressures are with in spec relevant to the ambient temperature.

Big lots in Hoover has R132a for $8 a can....

How do you pull a vacume... or do you have to

Only if the system has been opened. You don't pull a vacuum if you only add refrigerant but you shouldn't be low on refrigerant unless you have a leak. I do have the cheap vacuum that runs off your air compressor. I hope it works worth a crap.

only if you have it set to..
Mine does have a leak that's whats wrong with it.
Wait... Are you saying that you only have to pull a vacuum if you are low on refrigerant?
If you are not low on refrigerant why would you be adding it?

No you won't need to vac the system. Only if you open it up. A lot of people will think that they need to top off their refrigerant cause their ac is warm. When it is something else that is not allowing it to work properly like a dirty condenser. Hell you could go and get one of those all in one cans and add the refrigerant that way.

Bang'em, how do you know you have a leak? Most people do not, and they overfill their system and never get cold air.
I'm not sure I need more coolant. But then that's why I wanna do this party!

I had my compressor replace 2 years ago...
At the beginning of last summer no cold air.. I was told that there was a leak in the high schrader valve.
At in the early fall no cold A/C again I was told (by a more reputable mechanic) that there was a leak.. They added dye because there wasn't any in the system yet and when I use a uv I can see the dye all around the valve (guess the first guy didn't replace it). So now I have spent about 2k on my A/C..

Why dump more refrigerant in knowing it is just the valve core. They are only a few bucks to replace. And really when ever the system is opened you should replace both valve cores, the dryer and any o-rings that are easily replaceable. All of that is just cheap insurance so you don't have to go back in for something small. So the first dude kinda screwed you IMO.

Well schraider valves are cheap, the tools are ~$100 at harbor freight and then the $40 worth of oil and R-134. Then google a how too and have at it.
