I have a 2003 4runner with 101k on the odometer. Over the past year, I've either recharged or had the A/C system recharged three times. Now that the temperature is rising in the south, my wife has commented on how the A/C won't cool down the truck. After recharging the system again and buying a leak detector, I had the detector signal when it was inside the vehicle in front of the vents. I checked it multiple times and had it signal every time. I also check the entire A/C system without any other signals.

Could it be an evaporator?

Does anyone have any idea of where the leak might be?

Unsure if they might have a typical point of leakage but I would get a spray jug of windex for instance and start spraying down every connection looking for a leak.
Yes any lines, condenser, evaporator, compressor etc.

With the multiple recharges you likely have a leak somewhere. But also make sure the A/C "radiator" isn't full of dirt/leaves/bugs/grass seeds if it has been off road a good bit. I have had my Jeep Liberty's A/C go kaput a few times from having the heat exchanger plugged with off road goodies (mostly grass seed).

Well, I'll hit all of the connections and hoses that I can access; however, the evaporator system is inside the dash, so it is going to be impossible to check w/o taking the whole thing apart.

It's my wife's 4runner and the A/C radiator is clear.

also forgot to mention..I think they are still as they were... any leaks might be accompanied by a dust build up from the leakage of refridgerant/oil.
