I turned on my a/c this last week when the temp out here reach near the 3ple digits.it blows cold while driving and i started to notice that the compressor disengage when idling, although the rpm's is up by about 150 or so.when i turn off the a/c the rpm's drop a bit, when i rev the engine about 1200 the compressor will start to cycle.what could it be?is this normal?any adjustments?

any advice or suggestion will be greatly appreciated.thanks in advance. john:hhmm:

it may be the clutch on the compressor starting to go. I am not spoiled with ac here in alaska but it sounds like the clutch on the compressor. just a thought.

check your a/c amplifier under the dash on passenger side is a little blue turn knob. It may just need an adjustment. Let it idle and turn a/c on then turn it till it kicks on.

thank you

for the pointers fjdemon and nocal,i will check it tommorow and make some adjustments. john:D

Glad I could help, hope it works for you. Should take about 10 seconds and you will know. One of the first things I look at now on a old cruiser with a/c issues is if the RPM guage works. If for some reason that wire came lose on the distributor it will also not allow your a/c to kick on. Like that other post had listed it works in part with RPMs, compressor, and the amplifier. Crazy little set up. haha. Later:cheers:
