Hey everyone!
I'm doing my homework on replacement speakers and seems there is different equipment in different versions of our vehicle. I have a stock 99 UZJ100 and would like to change the speakers.

1) what's the size and impedance of the speakers
2) Is there a sub speaker or not?
3) can the amp be pulled without cutting wiring / is there a harness set available to put a new amp in?
4) is there a harness available to bypass the amp all together and use the headunit speaker drivers?

FYI
The stereo head unit I have pulled is a Matsushita 86120-35170, factory speakers remain.

The alpine cde123 i've installed in it's place is significantly better but the sound is lacking a bit in fullness, and the bass is a bit weak with mid volume distortion.

My goal is XM or ipad movies with reasonably clear and full mid volume sound.
I would like to maintain factory wiring for OEM refit on resale.
I am happy to keep factory amp IF it will work reasonable well.

so far I'm thinking:
4X KFC-P709PS Kenwood 6.75" component speakers with OEM connectors

any midrange amp advice / recommendations?

Factory amp is total garbage. There is no "adapter harness" you will cut off plugs. The amp has power pass throughs for the head unit - once you disco the factory amp you will need to tie the wires together at the amp location so the head unit powers up.

The sub is located in the driver side rear cargo area behind a grill cloth and consists of 2 four inch paper cone speakers that are equally junk. Disconnect that sub for better bass and less distortion.

MOst of us upgrade amps with a 5 channel like JL or Arc Audio, install new door speaks, head unit and add a sub box separately. That single 5 channel amp can power the whole thing very well.

1) what's the size and impedance of the speakers I cant rmember exactly. isnt it in one of the FAQ threads?
2) Is there a sub speaker or not? yes search for Sub you will find threads with pics.
3) can the amp be pulled without cutting wiring / is there a harness set available to put a new amp in? I cant remember if Crutchfield has one for a new amp or not.
4) is there a harness available to bypass the amp all together and use the headunit speaker drivers? Yes, Crutchfield has a amp by-pass. You can find them embay and amazon as well.

Just replace everything and dont worry about resell value. The factory system is crap. I would consider paying more for a well installed aftermarket system then a very disappointing factory system.
