I had an after market brake controler and 7 pin trailer wire harness hooked up "professionally" about a year ago.

Ive been having problems with the rh signal light on my camper ever since.

The camper lights function properly when hooked to another vehicle.

the rh turn signal does not work.

the lh turn signal works fine

the light itself functions normally w/ hazards, brake lights, and running lights though it seems a little dimmer.

when i step on the brakes the right signal works just fine.

Has any body experienced similar issues?

Any ideas for fixes or where to start trouble shooting. I have a meter and the electrical schematic manual for a 98 (mine is a 99) I am an electronics tech by trade so im not afraid to try anything but id wrather not make it worse!

thanks in advance for your time.
ps i cant take it back because i had to move the location of the hookup. it hung way to low for wheeling. the problem was there b4 i moved it.

One idea is the camper lights themselves. I just had to change my tail/brake/signal/flasher unit on my RV trailer because the Land Cruiser converter was not playing nicely with the LED lights on the trailer. Once I changed the bulbs (entire light units, actually) to incandescent, no more problems. I think the LED bulbs didn't draw enough current to work properly with the converter. That may not be your issue, since the LH works ok, but it's something to consider.

X2 on this

Thanks,
the lights are already incandescant and i'm only having the problem with the rh turn signal.

This doesnt rule out the relays on the land cruiser but i dont think current draw is a problem.

I was having a similar problem with my 7pin. My 4 pin worked fine. Took the 7pin socket apart and cleaned the contacts with a small wire brush and reassembled with a dab of dielectric grease on each contact. Also put a little grease in each "socket" on the female side. No problems since. Took about 30 minutes.

I had the Toyota dealer install a duel 4/7 way plug and the P3 controller. They connect the 4 way on the 7 way harness to the OEM 4 way plug and they ran the additional wires for the breaks to the P3. The issue I'm having is that the green wire on the OEM 4 way plug isn't getting any juice. The running lights, breaks and left turn signal works but the right turn signal does not work. I took the spare tire off to get a better view of the wiring. I followed the wires to the jack box in the trunk and i found that they cut the red wire and the green wire from the OEM plug and they hard wired it directly by bypassing the OEM connection plug in the jack box. No idea why they did that but thats a different story. I tow most weekends so I might save myself a lot of aggravation by brining the rig to a RV place to have them figure it out, in the mean time it would be great if there is a quick fix for this, like a blown fuse. I assume that if it was a blown fuse nothing would be working back there. Very strange that the only issue is the right turn signal (green wire) isn't working but for some reason everything else works just fine.

If you take the splice apart, is there power from the feed side? If it is grounded out you may not get any power reading also the right turn on the truck probably will not work with the trailer attached. With the splice taken apart if power is there then the problem is on the 4pin side. If not then it is on the truck side. It can be hard to check with a meter as the voltage is on/off for a turn sig and some meters are not quick enough to see it. Sorry if that is info you already know, no idea of your electrical experience. There is also the always frustrating bad bulb. Most trailer lights are lower quality. I just fixed one where the wire to the socket was only a slip in contact that was held in place by a metal spring tab and the wire had slipped passed the tab breaking the circuit.

The green wire is dead on both ends (feed side and the non feed side). The ground is good. Im pretty sure something got cooked when i hooked it up to some faulty wiring on the trailer since the trailer wire started smoking within minutes after it was connected to the truck.

Electrical is no fun. Turn sig fuse and relay should be under drivers side dash. Fuse is 15amp, 2nd from the top, upper left of box, under the radio fuse. The relay,pn81980, looks to be towards the right side wall. Can't tell from the diagram but looks like the relay and fuse control both side turn sigs and hazard flashers. If the others function fuse/relay should be good but I'm not 100% on that. If the wire melted through the insulation it may blow a new fuse/relay almost instantly. If that's the case it looks like hunting for the green wire and trying to find where it melted through, not fun.

Thank you for the feedback! As far as i can tell the fuses all look good and the wiring on the truck did not melt just the wiring on the trailer. I have not yet been successful at finding source of the green wire or where it starts in efforts locate the location of the problem. I have all the testing equipment but its not doing me any good since i can find where the wiring starts.

Sorry for the delay- i hope my frustrating experience can help you mdm0002.

Your issue sounds a lot like the one i was having. Ill skip right to it.

I plugged mine in and instantly lost tail lights and smelled electronics smoke.

I finally ran out of time and took it in. It was a faulty break light converter box. He said it looks like it got wet, imagine that.

I don't think that's what killed it though. My original install killed it.

i found a generic break light converter box for about 25 bucks and now she works like a champ!

Let me know if you need and specifics for your box. I would advise finding this box and giving it a good sniff!

Good Luck

i found it at a different trailer hitch installer. I am away from home now and i cant remember the model #.

The guy that fixed mine pulled the old one out for me to take it with me. its a good thing he did because no one had a clue what i was talking about.

minus the 4 way on the end and the name on the cover that looks just like it. Should be plug and play. Thanks Duggy.

I hope this works for you mdm0002

I checked it out on Amazon and Amazon auto says it will not fit the 2000 LC.

duggy what year is your LC?

The way its wired on my rig is that the OEM plug (4 Way) is connected to an aftermarket combo plug (4 & 7 Way) and the 2 braking wires for the T3 brake controller is wired directly from the rear aftermarket combo plug to the T3. Not sure if it was done correctly, it was done at the local Toyota dealer, but I think there must be a "cleaner" install or way of doing it.
