Hi all,

I have read all posts that turned up under a search for "transponder key", but did not find the info I need. I own a Diesel 99 Land Cruiser. I live in Nicaragua, Central America, and that's where I bought it.

I didn't want to pay $90 for a replacement key (not master w/remote, just key for opening doors manually and starting engine) so I purchased a replacement key on Ebay. Alas, it could not be programmed. They said my master key was OK, but the new key I bought is not compatible. Apparently, the US models used different keys than Central American models with Diesel engines.

Can anyone tell me what key I need to buy and where to purchase it???

Thanks,
Stefan

That's a tough one, I know for US trucks we use the Camry, non button transponder key. Works with the LCs as long as you have the original master/transponder key that came with the truck. It may work if you can get a similar key from a vehicle in your market.

US vehicle centric, but good gouge on transponder keys and programming. And the steps to do it, maybe the e-bay keys will work with the steps in this thread if they are different from what you have:meh:

Maybe a picture of your key will help, it might be the same as some other Toyota someone might recognize. Not surprising they don't use the fragile remote key from our 100s in Central America.

Correct i had to change my transponder in my key. The US transponder will not work with a diesel 100.

I would suggest you go to the dealer if the truck is not a import. Or get in touch with Japan4x4, i bought mine from him.
