98 Tacoma 4X4 ???

I recently acquired a nice low mileage 98 Tacoma 4X4 with E-locker.
What does the ECT switch do. It says power on and power off. The manual doesn't cover this at all. Help.

electronically controlled transmission. it basically is like a sport or power mode. it holds rpm's higher...delaying the shift points to keep rpm's up, keeping it in the power band...depending on throttle position.

One more question. Is the ECT for 4L E-locked only?

Doesn't matter when you use it. I drive all the time with it on unless I do a long road trip on the highway. All Taco's and 4Runners with Automatics have the ect switch

i use it whenever...tried a tank with and a tank without. minimal difference, but the power is noticable esp if youve got bigger tires and havent regeared.
