Here is my problem, In the morning the truck start and if a don't warm it up and drive off, it stutters, backfire and has no power until it warms up. I have a check engine lite on P0171 which means the left back is running lean.

Two days ago I was driving and the truck started stalling out and stuttering, I shut it off and started it back up and it run fine. Yesterday morning it would not start at all, I disconnected the battery and let it sit for couple hours, connected the battery back and it started with no problem at all. This morning it was ok until this afternoon it died in the middle and would not start again. About 30 minutes before it started to stalled again, I shut it an it started with on problem.

This was my diagnose ,that I thought, the cold problem could be a clog cat and the other issue could be a fuel pump. the truck has 260k well mainted. I ordered a fuel pump. Any ideas?

thats sux man
here some thoughts
when was the last time you changed your ignition coils ?
how about fuel filter? ( i know fuel filter doesnt make whole lot of sense but just a thought )
have you clean your fuel injectors?
good luck

About a year ago I had two coils went bad, that would of given me codes, the gas filter about two years ago. Thanks for the help.
I had it at the stealership for a brake flush and couple other things and I asked them about the injector clean and they said it's not needed.

How long was your check engine light on for when you had bad coils and how long has it been on this time? It kind of sounds like a clogged cat, but I don't think it would run fine after it was warmed up. Do you have Techstream? You might be able to look at the O2 monitor data and get some more information. If one side gets real out of whack, it can cause issues.

With the gad coil the truck started and idle very rough, at that time I knew what it was, so I didn't drive the truck. I have a very good OD2 scanner. When the truck runs good with or without the light on. I can clear it and it runs and it will run good with the light on.

When the truck is driving or even idling, it idles very smooth. the code is for a left #1 O2 sensor. A code P0171 could be cause by any one of these. thanks for your help

- Intake air leaks
- Faulty front heated oxygen sensor
- Ignition misfiring
- Faulty fuel injectors
- Exhaust gas leaks
- Incorrect fuel pressure
- Lack of fuel
- Faulty Mass Air Flow (MAF) sensor
- Incorrect Positive Crankcase Ventilation (PCV) hose connection

Here is my update. After doing some trouble shooting of the Maf, Fuel pump ecu, All was good wasn't sure about MAF, the numbers didn't look good. I got to the pump and check for resistance between pin 4 and 5 nothing, put power to the same pin still nothing. Ok I need a pump. Took the pump out and tap it on the ground, pump started to work again. Luckily for me I had call and order a pump the same day the truck died, if it wasn't the pump I wouldn't have to pay for it.

So I installed the pump and it's now three days and not a hiccup not check engine light and now stuttering when cold and the truck idles so smooth , even feels a bit faster. thanks for all the help.

This seems weird in a month I changed three fuel pumps, 2 in my wife's cayenne and 1 in the LC.

Glad you figured it out. Because these fuel pumps are relatively cheap to replace, $125 for OEM Denso pump, and $125 for my local guy to install it, I went ahead and had mine replaced as PM. In my experience over the years, fuel pumps don't give much warning, if any at all that they are ready to go out, so I figured why not.

You are right, I got mine from the stealership at a really good price and since the old one run for 260k why not. Now that I think about it, I was getting signals from it, that it was going from September, but thought it was something else.

Thanks for the update. Always looking forward to learn from the forum.
