'97 vs. 99' 4Runner Front Bumper

Okay, so I'm going to get a winch bumper for my '99. Coincidentally, my daughter just (lightly) rear ended someone in her '97, bending up *her* front bumper. Unfortunately hers is 1,000 miles from mine so it's not just a drop it and check in the other one. The question before one of us drives 1,000 miles is will my '99 bumper fit her '97? Neither one has flares.

Also, how do the Addicted Offroad and 4X Innovation bumpers compare?

There is a significant difference in shape/profile of those bumpers. The '99 sticks out a lot further. I doubt it's just a bolt-on deal, but a junkyard could tell you for sure.

I am in the process of putting a 2000 bumper on my sons 97 and it requires some cutting and welding.

Well yes the 99 is a bubble style bumper.
I bought a ARB bumper..same part number for those years just a wider one if you had the large flares.
I would have thought they would be interchangeable

What did you (or have you so far) had to cut and weld? Just because the '99 sticks out further I wouldn't have thoughy pieces needed to be taken out...

That is odd...I thought I read somewhere that is was just the bumper that changed for "extra" front end protection, but that the attachment points were the same. Looking forward to pics on this, as if I find an older 3G4R, I'd want to put on a '99+ front bumper...would be good to know if it is a simple swap!

After taking pictures and looking at a little closer I may be wrong about the cutting and welding at least for the those who have all of the 97 mounting brackets. When my son wrecked his he took the bumper off and someone stole it so I dont have all the 97 brackets. I am going to have to use the 2000 brackets and make it work.
