I recently bought a 97 Tacoma that I want to build up. I hate how the ifs works on the trails around here and want to swap it out for a solid axle. I have a pretty decent hookup for a t case, tranny, and axle out of an 85 Toyota that's sitting in my buddies yard. Do I need anything special to bolt that up to my Toyota? Also I was thinking about buying a ford 44 axle if that would be a bit more simple. Which would be the best route?

TTORA is your best resource for a job like this. A lot of guys have done it and will answer your questions.

D44 is the most common, you have to find one with a passenger side drop. There are a bunch of kits out there.

X2 on TTORA forum for resources.

Allpro Offroad makes a SAS kit.
