I could search but really would rather have peoples opinions on the strength of the Elockers in the 96 and up Tacoma/4Runners

failures? weak links?

I know the electric actuator motors can seize if neglected as well as they are exposed, making damaging one much easier.

I have a chance to get a couple of them from some salvaged trucks/4Runners and if they have been known for failures or weak points I will just move them along and get an ARB with the dough from selling them instead

FWIW, I'd take the e-locker over ARB. Both work well most of the time. I'd go with whichever is cheaper.

Personally I'd go e-locker because I find air a lot less reliable long term.... there's a reason your car doesn't have 25 vacuum hoses running around the engine bay anymore.

I have torn apart and regeared both several times. I don't think one is stronger than the other. If you wanna mess with the air, get the ARBs. If you are good with wiring, get the e-lockers. I have e-lockers F&R in my pickup, had ARBs F&R in my FJ62.

It will probably come down to which one you can find for the best price.

I had a 97 Runner with the factory e-locker and I loved it. Never let me down.

I say go with the elocker. Even if the motor goes you can still actuate the locker with a cable setup. Send me a pm if you want to sell one.

The 3rd gen 4Runner on the cover of this month's 4wd Toyota Owner magazine is running 37's using the stock, elocked rear end (with 5.29's). I didn't check to see if the axles were upgraded to chromoly.

I sure love my E-locker on my Tacoma. No issues at 100,000mi. I plan to install ARB's in my 60 when I have the change saved up.
