I am a bit leary of 37's but if the ad is correct it is certainly geared for them. It looks to be very well built. I wonder what the "vandalism/theft" issue was. I am sure someone on the forum knows the truck.

Not sure how it works in CO, but to get a rebuilt title here in PA it's a huge pain in the ass. You have to have pics and documentation showing what was done to the vehicle to make it road worthy etc. Then you have to send all of that s*** into the state, blah blah blah. So as strange as it may sound sometimes you might get a better car if it has a rebuilt title. Either way it's a nice looking truck, very clean.

Rebuilt or Salvage titles sometimes are no issue at all.

In this case, the seller states that the truck was stolen and vandalized, which is one reason cars are "totaled". If that's the case, the rebuilt title is a non-issue, except in determining value. The loss of value because of a branded title is the major factor, not the driveability of the car.

I've seen some sellers mis-represent their cars, saying that the car was stolen, but in fact it was hit hard and that's the reason it was salvaged.

In any case, any car should be thoroughly examined before purchase, and if it has a rebuilt title, then you should add a trip to a good body shop to that inspection list.

Yes, I'm just referring to value--anything but a clean title kills the value, why that one is still for sale probably. Never know what a theft involved, but doesn't look like they cleaned this one out. Maybe they just went joyriding and left it or who knows. I know I'm hesitant to buy one and many others are also. There is a nice 40th in Vegas with only 89k miles for $5500 that was a theft recovery, too. Interior was gutted, who knows what else. So if you can't look it over carefully, may be wiring issues, interior pieced from multiple rigs, mileage on odometer might not be original, who knows.
Hard to buy these kinds long distance, which narrows the pool of possible buyers.

There is a Slee sticker on it. I'm sure if an interested party called Christo he would remember that truck if he ever saw it in the shop.

If I could get my car sold, I would be tempted to go out there and check it out if I could get him down a bit on the price.

I've seen that truck before....

it was parked on the side of the road in Paonia, Co....last March. We were in route from Snowmass to Wolf Creek on a mini ski safari. I remember we stopped and drooled over that rear bumper/winch set-up for at least 10 minutes. The truck looks KILLER in person. I hope it goes to a good cruiserhead.

No association.

Sometimes a salvage title issued due to a theft may not have been a real theft after all. Insurance companies come across this all the time; it is a scam when the owner will claim his/her vehicle was stolen and stripped, when in reality the parts were removed and stored by the owner. Then, the owner collects a check for the amount of the "stolen parts" and somehow has the exact same vehicle a week later.

This one may not be that scam, but a title that is not clean reduces it's value nevertheless.

Regardless, this is a very well equipped and capable ride that somebody may be happy with.

Looks like a real nice rig. The price is generally high, but not when you look at what it would cost to do all of those mods to a stock truck. There are plenty of 5-7 grand 80's around with a ton of miles that are trashed. This looks like a nice LX. I would guess that whoever set it up also was fairly up to date on the maintenance.

The title seems to be the only noticeable issue. That's probably why its still for sale. If it had a clean title, it would be gone. If I was in the market, I would definitely consider it. I paid a little over $9k for my modded LX. This one has a few extras that mine didn't (like the roof rack, snorkel, and rear winch). As long as it can be registered and insured, the title wouldn't be an issue for me. A clean title is important when it comes to to sell. If you don't have any plans on selling, its not an issue.

Hell, it wouldn't matter to me. The interior looks brand new, and I can't see any rust on it.

That rig is local to me. I think it is worth $9K with the miles and history and mods if everything checks out.

I would drive it in a second if I didn't already have an 80 with 5.29's and 37's :grinpimp:

Yeah it is a sweet rig, but I think it is high too. It has been for sale for a while, I looked at that ad several times while I was looking for cruisers.

nice for sure!!

I called and talked with the sales guy and he emailed me pics of the damage prior to repair. Really no big deal front end has been rebuilt and some other minor items. I know he said he planned on recovering the front seat (drivers side). Salvage title absolutely destroys the value and makes it very difficult to sell.
I offered the guy $9000 and he said he will not move off of his asking price. Priced a little to high I could see paying that if it had a clean title.

carfax

Here is what my best buddy had to say about this rig. He is a used car sales manager for a large chevy dealership.
it looks pretty cool, but it has a wholesale book of $7,000 on trade, being salvage..... probally 3000-3500 they want way to much for that thing! i ran a carfax on it and it has had 4 owners and the salvage just happened last month! it when from texas to Colorado!

I don't think anyone here would expect this buddy to understand the real value of a nicely modified 80.

I agree, you can't go by some bluebook value on something like this. If I had the money I would pick this rig up rebuilt title or not.

I agree, but without true knowledge of the truck, who did the axles, main history, etc. it makes it tough to get that kind of money for it.
