I know the subject very well versed, but I'm getting ready to proceed with a preventive head gasket job on my pristine 94. I contemplated the issue, have some available time, and concluded for several reasons that now is a good time to tackle this. Here is my question to the group:

One extreme to the project is like the following from @COYS (Thank you best wishes!):

I'm not going to that extreme as my engine good as is. But with a 225K mile truck, what *internal* parts in a list like that would you recommend absolutely replacing vs. retaining while the head is off the block? Simply based on availability not cost. I've already addressed the top end stuff/sensors, pesky, egr, hoses, etc. Not looking for war and peace just any real quick thoughts to ponder. Definitely plan to refurb or replace the 20 year old injectors. What else looking ahead to the next 100K miles?

Thank you.

Have you thought about doing timing components and oil pan seals? Obviously all the rubber that is hard to reach, fuel filter, if you pull the pans you could inspect your bearings and replace with new ones.

Definitely timing. Oil pan seals not pondered exactly info I desired = thank you.

What comes first, The erosion on the cylinder block deck that leads to head gasket failure or head gasket failure leading to erosion on the cylinder block deck. Here's a picture after
.005 inches was shaved, additional .004 was removed to make it satisfactory finish of the deck.

Very valid point!! Most of the blocks I have had done required .004-.009 removed to a factory finish.
