Oh wise Mudsters, I have a dilemma. Do I give it a :princess: heart transplant (around $3k after rebuilt engine & labor) or do I give the :shotts: carcass to a charity?

2nd owner of 92 mazda b2200 extended cab LE. 131k on the clock now, new radiator, used computer (EPU?).

First owner (friend and cop) had $150 in service done before mutual friends drove it from GA to NM. Check engine light came on in Alabama, truck died 150 mi from me. Towed it in: used EPU & new radiator. Overheated in construction traffic: shop replaced faulty cap and checked engine compression, said no worries.

Drove it another 4 years/35k miles (new shocks & tires in there somewhere) til it went 'bleeughie'. Parked it 4 years/0 miles. :frown:

Finally took it to current (better) shop: they can find a used engine for $1200, rebuilt w/no warranty for $1400. Interweb has them for $1800, 'remanufactured' 7y/70k mi warranty.

I'm pretty set on having a couple rigs, cuz I can't ride my Connie year round (3' snow + motorcycle =) and the 12 miles from work back home gains 1000'+ in elevation, so bicycling isn't the best fallback.

If I buy a beater & get it running I'll have the same amount into it as the Mazda wants. I could put the moola into the Cruiser (she's already asking for a pile o cash), but it is a 23yo rig, and not getting to work isn't an option.

All opinions gladly valued at more than I paid for them. :D What say ye?

tough call, you're right on the cusp of it's worth it or not. How's the condition of the truck otherwise? You might as well replace the clutch while it's apart so figure on that too.

btw, I has a Mazda pickup for years an 87, prolly the best little truck I've ever had.

weird... I had a 91 2200 extended cab LE from new. Block cracked at 90k miles... new block old head installed by the Mazda dealer.... fast forward to 165k miles... block cracked.. sold it to someone.

I'd put your truck in the paper. The "real" Mazda trucks have a cult following, someone will buy it.

if it hadn't been sitting for four years, it might have been worthwhile

yea, well...

original owner wants it back, willing to pay repairs plus, "once the settlement comes in".

guess I'll get it going & send it back before it blows again.

Thanx!
