The ONLY reason I am selling my 1992 Toyota 4Runner SR5 because I need to have a Pickup in order to haul my horses around. I bought this vehicle 3 years ago from a guy in Arizona. It has spent its entire life in AZ and CA, so there is nearly zero rust. It has picked up a little surface rust while being in SD but it is not plagued by deep rust as is common with this year of Toyota. I have driven this vehicle all over the united states and would not hesitate to take a 2000 mile road trip tomorrow.
The previous owner swapped in a Japanese 1KZ-TE 4 cylinder turbo-diesel engine from a 1993 Toyota Hi-Lux. He rebuilt it at 45k KM before dropping it into the 4Runner. It has a 4 speed auto transmission with integrated transfer case from the Japanese donor vehicle. The engine currently has around 182,000 KM on it. The engine is stock except for an Evo6 intercooler and upgraded fuel filter. This engine runs like a champ and starts great in cold weather. I average around 20MPG with the large tires. Has factory Japanese odometer and factory Idle-up switch for cold starts. The 4 wheel drive works perfect in Hi and Lo.
The rear differential is from a 2001ish Tacoma with an e-locker. 4.10 gears
Has Aisin manual front hubs
Custom 3" exhaust from Turbo manifold, Hi-flow muffler
Brand new battery with 5 year warranty
Professionally installed R134A air conditioning
Extremely bright spot lights up front for the trail
Custom front/rear bumpers and rear tire carrier. Custom roof rack. Heavy duty skid plate in front and over T-case
Tires are one year old, Cooper STMaxx 255/85/16 on 16" Tundra wheels and Full size spare
Suspension:
North West off road shock hoops with Bilstein shocks
Low-profile top-out stops, staged polyurethane bumpstops.
Total Chaos IFS rear frame brace, welded in place.
4crawler.com bronze idler arm bushings.
Sway-A-Way 26mm torsion bars.
1.5 Ball Joint spacers (torsion bars relaxed to stock ride height)
Progressive rear coil springs
Rear shocks from ToyTec
Downey ~2" rear panhard rod drop bracket.
No sway bars
1" body ilft
Interior:
Sony double DIN AM/FM Stereo/CD/MP3 player w/remote; iPod and MP3 player cable in glovebox.
Auxiliary switch retracts power antenna without turning off the stereo - nice for passing through brush, or at the drive-through carwash.
Infinity Reference series front speakers in factory boxes.
Boston Acoustic rear speakers in factory boxes.
Factory E-locker button with indicator light
EGT/Boost combo gauge
LED Interior lights
In the last year I have done the following maintenance:
Oil changes every 5k (factory filters ONLY)
New front rotors, break pads
New front wheel bearings/races/seals
New tie rod ends, upper/lower ball joints and steering bushings.
New rear shoes and brake cylinders
New tranny/t-case/diff oil (every year)
New Rear differential pinion bearings/seals
Timing belt/tensioner and water pump done at 145K
New rear U-joints
I know there are some things I'm forgetting to list, but feel free to ask questions. The exterior of this vehicle is in fair condition - it has dents, rock chips and a faded hood. It sees a lot of off road travel and I drive on dirt roads more than paved. The E-locker needs to be re-aligned. When I reinstalled the 3rd member after replacing the pinion bushings I didn't reverse the e-locker motor and I haven't had the opportunity to do so yet. It is a fairly easy fix it just takes some time.
I have several spare parts that will come with the vehicle:
2 toyota OEM oil filters
1 OEM air filter ($60 from canada)
3 OEM acc/AC belts
Spare 1KZ-TE ECU (hard to find!)
Lots of information on the engine swap
I am asking $7,000 or best offer. Has a clean South Dakota title. Located in Rapid City.
