I picked this 80 up with the intention of doing a diesel swap. PO had blown the oil galley plug in the head and I'm not sure how long he ran it. I didn't think long as he said he lost all power and it started smoking. He had no idea what was wrong with it. I fixed the problem and took it for a drive after an oil change. Up to 3k rmps it did great, anything more and it started knocking. Got up to 65mph no problem. Well in my attempt to diagnose the engine I revved the engine past 3k to hear the noise some more and now it knocks at idle. Pulled plug on #1 and sound changes.
At any rate the engine is still in the truck, runs, drives, all that... just knocks. ~120 psi compression on all cylinders.
I'd like to sell the engine first, then I'll sell trans/t-case/drivelines. Also, I'll pull it once someone commits to buying. Otherwise I'll just leave it until Im ready for the swap, as it serves just fine to pull onto trailers and move around. (I'll be moving soon...)
Has 226k on it. Trans fluid looks clean on dipstick, shifted fine. Don't know any maintenance history. Truck was in Texas all it's life until it came to me.
Powersteering pump is headed south as well. Everything else seems to be fine and it's all there.
