I am replacing headlight bulbs with plain old 9005 and 9006 bulbs. Problem is that the 9006 bulbs don't fit where they should (that is, in the upper hole (so that they are covered by the diffuser). 9005 bulbs fit fine in both the upper hole (where it should be 9006) and the lower (main beam) hole.
I can see that the mechanics of the 9006 bulb bases are different from what I took out, which were gray plastic with three radial 'bumps' adjacent to the three wings. The new 9006 has a black base, and the two bumps at 4 o'clock and 8 o'clock run horizontally. Maybe simpler to say that the old 9006 bases are the same as the new 9005 bases, whereas the new 2006 bases are different.
The new bulbs are 'no name' brand, so I may have some rogue bases. Can anybody help me figure out how to get 9006 bulbs that fit?
Thanks.

Ed in the hole where the 9005 was supposed to be. People can be lazy as hell.
