Guys-
I'm in dire need of some help, direction, ideas, etc to get my Cruiser back on the road. The tranny shop has had it almost 2 months and they're about to give up...they're out of ideas. Please read below an email that the tranny shop wrote to Rodney for help. If you have any questions or need more info please don't hesitate to ask!!
Here's the email from the Tranny shop...
Hello Orto,
I work for a transmission shop in Austin Texas. We recently built this transmission for a customer. His original complaint was no torque converter lock-up, other than that it seemed to work fine. After our overhaul, it has 3rd gear starts. We installed a pressure gauge on the governor tap on the side of the case and pressure reads 0psi in Park, Reverse and Neutral. On initial engagement in Drive the gauge also reads 0psi but after take off, governor pressure climbs rapidly and will stay at between 20-30psi even after coming to a stop. The only way to get pressure to return to 0psi is to place the gear selector in something other than Drive. Problem gets worse as fluid heats up.
Seems like a leak to me but all valves in VB are free, TV cable was adjusted to spec and then everywhere in between, governor valves are always free, VB was flat sanded and is flat, no wear in rear case area where governor rings seal, new Teflon sealing rings on governor support (have also tried the originals once again just for good measure), no visible wear of governor valves or governor housing. We have had this in and out several times and we are out of ideas. We are thinking about replacing the governor housing and valves just as a last ditch effort to see if that changes anything.
The thing that bothers me most about this job is that all the governor parts, valve body and case are original. I would think that if it shifted out OK when the vehicle arrived that it should shift as good now even it there is wear we can't see. The builder on this job claims to have run into this problem on a few Cruisers before this one but since we do very few of these, can't remember the previous solution. I feel that if he's run into it before possibly itʼs something he is creating during the overhaul.
Your reputation precedes you and any advice or suggestions you might have are more than welcome. At this point we are also interested in pricing out a unit from you, should we be unable to resolve this issue for our customer.
