Oh,, I will consider trades for a 91-96 bone stock Land cruiser 62 or 80 series w/ no rust... Reason selling is because we need a family hauler...

Must include pics.

while this is a beautiful and extremely well built off roader and crawler, it is completely inappropriate for an expedition.
good luck, cheers,
J

"Inappropriate for an expedtion"??? :flipoff2::flipoff2: WOW. I guess that the on-board hot water shower, and the mounts on the exo-cage for a my roof top tent and awning would not qualify for an "expedition" ?? And it does have doors, and the rear is sealed off from the elements behind the rear seats.
Explain to me what you "think" an expedition truck should be?? Keep in mind that I have been on MANY "expedition" type, long term trips. (so have you, from my research, though not that long, but close enough. CHEERS for us rare few that are able to afford time off for such "road" trips)) I prefer my "expedtions" to be over 4 to 6 weeks, and the more I am in 4wheel drive the better. The FURTHER off the "road" the better....
So, If I happen to join a group on an "expedition" trip for longer than say 4 weeks,(say, to the Northern territories of Canada). I guess the people would think that this truck would be "inappropriate" for me and my wife to attend the run, thus, not letting us go with them?????
Dude,,, give me 6 months, and I will make most any vehicle into an Expedtion type vehicle (big or Small) Plus, If I were going to be on a 4-6 week run, driving over 8000 miles, it would take VERY little work to prep this rig for a long term run.
I guess an "expedition" vehicle will need to have more creature comforts??? Better Radial tires?? Big Leather seats?? Air conditioning?? More storage??? "Diesel"??
Dude, Drop me in the middle of a desert with no food and water, and will knock on your door within' a week, wearing a tux and holding a blade:cheers::cheers::cheers:

Your bone stock 80 series is a wonderful "expedition" rig. But you would not make it to a 1/4 the places that I would plan on going on "my" expectations of an "expedition" or "long term trip".

Keep up your great "over the road travels", and keep up the pictures, your write ups are great.:):)
Best Regards.
Mike

I am truly sorry, I did not mean anything demeaning. I have no doubt that you have been to some great places and that you had fun doing it.

BTW, I have a 60, not a 80, but it does not matter.

IMHO, most important for an expedition rig is reliability, and that it can be fixed pretty much anywhere. This rules out many of the extreme modifications.
Yes, ride quality is a point, if you plan to travel far. diesel, maybe, but not so much. gassers can be just as reliable, but you'll have to carry more fuel.
I consider it an advantage to have the truck NOT stand out much, and to have the (questionable) protection
of an enclosed cargo area.

And you are correct, my 'expeditions' are usually confined to roads (although sometimes they are hard to find).

Anyway, it is a great truck.

cheers,
Jan

Thanks, No offense taken, just the "inappropriate" word threw me back a little. My other builds (82fj60/ 89FJ62) were the rigs that my wife and I did MANY trips with for over 2 months at a time during summer breaks in College (NT Canada and to Alaska).
This rig has not done a "long term run, 4 weeks+" since the build, but we did do a 2 weeker to Bama, WVa.,Tenn (tellico)+ (raush Creek), Penn, SC,GA(river rock)+(Gulches) Thus the 5K TO 7K on the OD since the build. It sits in my garage, and I drive her about 2 times a month. AS for as reliability is concerned. 1st. it is a Toyota (nuff' Said:):)) Parts for these vehicles are readily available in the US and Canada etc.etc.
The 22RE powerplant is easy on the fuel and BULLET PROOF. All the extreme modifications are of Toyota build (ie front axle,Trans,Tranfer,etc.etc.) thus, most of the replacement parts are still readily available, and can be used as a replacement, but, not as strong, ie: birfs,shafts,U-Joints etc.etc.
AS far as the truck not standing out, I AGREE. But, I know that when I am on a "road trip" especially a long one, I NEVER go out of EYE view of my home (ie:the toyota) and Yes, I will do what is ness. to def. my home, as would you. And also an "expedition vehicle" to me, would be something that if I got into a REALLY bad spot, and had to leave my rig, knowing I will never get it back, then I would walk away from her in a heart beat. I would leave the truck with nothing but a knife and some good foul weather gear, and flip-it the bird as I walked away.
AS far as the Gas and Diesel conversation, We would be opening up a can of worms. But I will say this, Dep on where you are with a HJ60 or a toyota diesel engine. It is REALLY tough to find parts in the US for Toyota diesel engines, not many of your auto parts stores will carry those parts in-stock. But, again, it depends on where you are traveling and in what time of year, Diesels don't like cold weather, And gas engines w/ a carb Hate high altitudes. +/- on both types of engines.
Sorry, I got your vehicle confused, 40/60/80, I love them all, and will help any toyota driver I see on the side of the road, except FJ cruisers :):) HAHAHAHA Just kidding.

Thanks again for the compliments, and hope to see you on the trails:cool::cool::cool:
