A friend of min has an 86 fj60 and this is the email he sent me:

hey man, i am having some electrical issues on the toyota and wanted to get your opinion. basically, battery is brand new, everything started fine and now when i turn the key i get no lights (dash or headlights), or turn over. it jump starts though. when i put the battery in after charging it to make sure that wasn't the issue, i got dash lights and head lights until i turned the key and it all died and won't come back-any ideas?

Check the grounds, starter main power supply and fusible link first for looseness or corrosion. Tell him to make sure that the battery posts are clean and snug too. It doesn't sound like an alternator/battery issue but it still can be.

P.S Tell him to come to the forum and post his problem directly. It's hard enough diagnosing something via a post let alone when a 3rd party is involved in the equation. It just eliminates the possibility of "Chinese whispers" style of communication to occur. (Loose info as it's passed on)
