Good morning all;

I'm back, another issue with my '86 BJ 70 Diesel Landcruiser. In the spring of 2013 I had an issue with the garage queen when I took it out for its first inaugural spring run. The Cruiser made it around the corner and stalled. I solved that problem by replacing the fuel filter, water filter and air intake filters. The truck ran very well until it was stored for the winter. Around the middle of March 2014 I went out and started the Cruiser and let it run for approximately half hour or so, occasionally revving the motor checking for black smoke from the exhaust etc., no issues at this point. I should mention that the fuel in the tank was last filled in October 2013. I didn't move the vehicle from the garage, I just let it idle. Then I did the same thing again in April; however, this time it started and ran for less than a minute, sputtered and stalled; I wasn't able to restart the truck. I discovered that the truck needed to be primed to be started, not sure why. In a cursory inspection I found a split in the air intake hose that runs from the air filter to the air intake by the fuel lines. I used a type of aluminum duct tape to temporally patch the crack in the hose until I'm able to replace it. Because I'm not a diesel technician, I arranged to have the truck primed. Upon a suggestion, that it might be dirty fuel from sitting all winter, I should pour two cans of Seafoam gas stabilizer into the diesel fuel tank and let it idle for approximately an hour or longer. This was done and the truck ran for approximately half an hour and then promptly died when some pressure was applied to the gas pedal. It will not start. I have turned to "I H8MUD forum once again, hoping maybe someone out there has had the same or similar issues, with a solution.

Thank you in advance for any help that anyone may be able to provide.

I dont think its bad fuel. My guess is that is either getting air into the fuel system or the fuel shut off system is switching off (EDIC?) because of low oil levels or low oil pressure( i forget which one triggers it)

Priming a diesel is not hard to do.Its something diesel owners should become proficient at

Imo ,you dont normally need to idle any engine for long periods,just get oil pressure up and drive it. It better for the combustion chamber and pistons/rings to be at operating temps. At idle diesel temps drop right down.

Thanks Rosco, I'll definitely trouble shoot the air intake problem. However, the EDIC has been removed from my Cruiser. It failed about 3 years after I bought it. I had a Cruiser technician do a work around with the EDIC out of the picture. That being said, I should check the work around for the EDIC. There may be a lose wire or something has failed in the work around. It has been a couple of years since it had a full tune up/inspection.

How does your engine shut down now? Normally,removing the EDIC means that they have a cable which pushes/pulls the throttle lever to the stop position.

Sorry for this delay Rosco.
I've tried to trouble shoot some of this myself; however, in the end I've taken it to a diesel mechanic. The mechanic narrowed it down to the fuel feed pump. At first he thought it might be a pin hole in the gas line coming out of the fuel tank. Proved not to be with further investigation. I'm in the process of trying to locate some place to purchase a fuel feed pump for the 3B engine.

Thanks again for your help with this; greatly appreciated, will keep you updated to the progress.
