'85 FJ60 charcoal canister question

I just got a charcoal canister from an '85 FJ60 (tip 'o the hat to a great MUD member) to install on my '71 FJ55. The 60 canister has an electrical plug on it.

What the heck is THAT for, and do I need to power up this canister for it to work on my 55?

The electric widget is a valve to connect to the carb float bowl. The 71 carb has no provision for the bowl vent. Remove the electric valve from the canister and cap the large fitting. Connect the other two fittings (labeled 'tank' & 'purge') as normal.
