can someone clue me into whether it would be a direct fit for a stock carb from an 84 into a 87? anything different between those years?

thanks in advance.

Yeah it is the same carb. Nothing should be different.

Hold on there tonto!! They are two different carbs. The 87' carb is slightly different then the rest of the 60's. I know this cause i have tried to put a 87' carb on my 83' and it DID NOT WORK. Look at your 84' carb and compare it to the 87' and you'll see a slight difference.

woah there buddy. no need for names. my ignorance begat the question - and to be specific i'm talking about an 84 carb onto an 87 truck.

can anyone else confirm/deny that they will work? i'm looking at buying one from someone and would like to avoid a needless exercise. being that i don't have both in my lap to compare myself, i'd appreciate any shared insight.

Why didn't it work?

There are different emission parts on a 87' carb that a 84' won't have. When i tried to put a 87' onto a 83' truck i forget which one it was but i had an extra pipe, hose, something that was left over so i ended up putting the old carb back on. I talked to one of the guys at cruiserparts.net (where the 87' carb came from) and asked him if a 87' was different then a 83' and he said yes and that's why it didn't work.

Sorry for the tonto thing.....

Yes, it is a direct swap. All 81-87 2F carbs are interchangeable.

The PN is 21100-61141 (superceded) or 61142, BTW. That will tell you if you have *the* 81-87 carb.

They sent you a 79-80 carb.
They have all the exact same electrical, fuel and vacuum connections, except missing one freakin' vac fitting for HAC.

That musta been annoying:mad:

thanks a bunch for setting us straight with the info Jim, it's appreciated.

So i have a 79-80 carb in my garage and not a 87'? Man this sucks now. It sucked more when i removed everything to install the new carb and it not fitting.

Sorry about the wrong info guys but i was mislead as well.

Good luck Loeky.
