i think i've cracked my block on my 83 FJ60. i've got access to a 78 2F out of a 40 wondering if there would be any problem with the swap and should i use my carb? any other ideas thanks

The blocks are different. 78-earlier has no provision for mounting the PS pump.
Disregarding the problem with the block, and the lower performance of the earlier low compression engine, if you swap any engine into the truck, I would recommend swapping all your accessories (dissy, fuel pump & spacer, thermostat outlet, manifolds/carb/smog...) because the fit your truck, and you know they worked.
