My sunroof broke a couple of days before the VA trip and I'm still tinkering with it. It will open and close with some negotiation (but not close fully), and will not tilt at all (probably since it won't fully close). There is also some slack in the cable when opening and closing (motor runs but movement is delayed).
I unbolted the glass yesterday and see the cables moving on each side, but think the cables may be disconnected at the ends where they attach to the sliding parts on each side.
It's also interesting how I have to open and close the sunroof now. I have to switch between pressing the open and down to open it and the close and up to close it.
Anyone have experience with sunroof problems on 80s or know if a local junkyard may have an 80 that I can pull the whole assembly from? Unfortunately the FSM doesn't give much detail on the sunroof other than adjustment or removal and there isn't much in the ih8mud tech section.
