Seen a couple episodes of this Motor Trend produced show before.

I give him mad props for knowing that there is a difference between a FJ80 and a FZJ80

Can't wait for future videos. Using the model that is the pinnacle of toyota 4x4 design in a cheap truck challenge..... almost like cheating :D

Based in the challenges they have done in the past, i imagine the xj is going to take it. Now the 80 series will be able to do the challenge a 100 times and drive home where the xj will not.

when is the challenge? also, his buddies 80 was pretty rad, is he on mud? nice rear winch.

The other truck in the video is actually one of our customers. Don't think he is on Mud, and if he is, it is not regularly. 6" kit with all Slee stuff plus a AVO turbo system. Front and rear winches and a bunch of other stuff. He beats on it pretty hard and normally attended the Surf and Turf at Pismo.

We have schooled Freddie enough on the 80's so he should know the difference :) He is kinda closet Toyota guy.

This was pretty sweet. These guys are with Motor Trend?

to the FJ80 v FZJ 80, i know land cruisers are certainly not fast, but how freaking slow is the FJ80 with the 4.0. My LX 470 is a snail. i cant imagine nearly the same weight with a 4 cylinder 6 banger.

What I really want to know is, how is an 80, a cheap truck? :D My wallet says otherwise!

Well cheap truck challenges are all about starting price and a capped mod price

not about maintenance to keep it going on and on

my fj80 3fe is surely not fast...but it will move its self when I need it too...and it is usually full of about 200# of tools and at full throttle it moves 3x the speed of the gas gauge

Personally I don't agree the mods at all.

I'd have done spartan locker, better tires, lift by metal tech spacers in front and slees in the rear. And you'd still have some of the 2k left over.

I wish South Carolina had more cheap 80's for sale. I personally like the 3FE in the fj80 because of the timing chains and since it isn't that fast my wife and I would have a harder time getting speeding tickets.
I read the article they slanted to the Jeep but they basically say the land cruiser was the best all around and it needed better tires.

I think there are a few 3FE 80s for sale in NC right now.

I have 4 cars and I would need to move to another neighborhood so I have more room to continue my hobby.

But if I was going to have a trail only 80 series, I would weld the rear to make a lincoln locker or put in a Aussie locker. I would also strip the interior carpet our and rhino line it, to get rid of the old sticky carpet and make it easier to clean after wheeling or hunting.
