I need to replace the headlight bulbs in our '97 FZJ80. Is bulb replacement straightforward? Any tricks I need to know? What about bulb recommendations that will be available from the nearby FLAPS?

lights
This is the recommend upgrade... (low beams)
It puts out a good bit more light all you have to do is sand down the long tab so it matches the other two then it drops right in
For high beam its the 9011.

Bulb upgrade

The bulb shown in the Amazon list is a different shape than the HIR John Deere set i put in a couple of years ago. I wonder if they are the same thing. I know that the John Deere were not DOT approved. Man what a great bang for your buck though. The set in the link is about half of the cost of the JD lamps.

I have had both in mine and I can't tell the difference between these and the John Deere..

I got the toshiba HIR ones off eBay some long years ago... I was told they were the same as John Deere.... when John Deere was out on Wire Road/I-85.... they wouldn't sell me any lights, said they couldn't get them.... then went outta bidnesss!

Bulbs installed. Not too bad once I figured out how to pull and install. High beams were a direct plug-n-play but the lows required trimming of one of the tabs. I used toenail clippers for the trimming with a little followup filing to smooth the edges. This went well on the first bulb but I was a little heavy handed on the second and broke off more of the tab than I intended. Even with the removal of a little too much of the tab the bulb still plugged in firmly.
