I hope you guys can help me with your experience.

Issue #1 - P0401 code has come on twice in the last 10 days but cruiser seems to be running just fine.

Issue #2 - MY AC will stop working periodically for short periods when I go up longer highway hills and when I am in traffic, other wise AC is cold and working.

Thanks in advance.

#1 is an EGR flow issue. I just fixed that on our Camry. remove the egr and see what the hole looks like. mine was completely blocked with carbon. be super careful on the manifold side. barely touching the blockage with make it fall into the intake manifold. you have to push it out from the inside or blow it with air (I had to remove the throttle body on the Camry).
for ac, someone else with have to help there.

Thanks a lot BionicCruiser, I appreciate the help and the response.

no problem. I spent a year or so and spent over $150 to find the fix was free. hope to save you that. I lucked onto a video that had the info I gave above.

P401 is notorious on our engine due to the age. The 80 section has lots of nice pictures on how to clean out some of the passageways.

Your A/C sounds like is cutting out when the water temp hits 216 deg F (I think). So, it sounds like you're not moving enough air through the radiator while in slow traffic. Again, another sign of our aging engines. Is your radiator up to snuff? Other folks, including me, have upped the fan clutch fluid from the factor 3,000CST to higher numbers. This allows the fan clutch to lock harder and pull more air through the radiator. Read up on the blue fan clutch mod on the 80 section to see the details. I'm using 7,500 CST and some uses 15,000 CST depending on their location.
