Anyone look at the latest Recoil magazine? Quite an article about a fellow that made a bov out of an 80. Very, very nice. squeezed in a 5.9 cummins and went from there.

Factory lockers - sweet

Mechanical diesel - thats pretty sweet.

Diesel Conversion Specialists in Montana did the swap - thats kind cool it was converted in MT, but never heard of them

“Only Weighs one ton more then stock". WOW!

I look at builds like this and wonder what purest think? I know that Ron like engine swaps but i almost feel like its a shame not to go with toyota? They mention in the article that the were worried about parts availiablity, and decided against a toyota diesel but dont they understand that LC's dont break?

I think that this one would have been a truly better starting point. At least if your going the "BOV” direction. Because anything worth doing is worth over doing.

Per the AD:
1995 Toyota Land Cruiser Armored (bullet proof) all around serious buyer please. Less than 50k miles sold "as is" runs strong. Has one window that has cosmetic damage but not affects the integrity or resistance. Have bill of sale for it.

According to another MUD thread, they wanted like $6500 for it IIRC.
AND ITS 3X LOCKED!

Armor added 1500 lbs. soo if they did that cummins swap on this one they would be pushing 9000 lbs loaded up?

I wonder what kind of stories this one could tell, or who owned it previously.

Over the years my dislike of mods has changed (imagine that). Everytime something is modified it's to improve over the basic. Flimsy bumpers replaced with 1 that can handle a deer strike, interior improvements for creature comforts such as stereo installs and navigation. Suspension, exterior lighting etc, etc. Even Mr. Toyo made mods every year. Who doesn't dream of a factory locked 80 series (except TC). What an improvement for offroading. I've said for years that if toyota would have designed their own v8 based on the sbc and installed them in the cruisers, the number of jeeps we see on the road would be drastically reduced
