Umm,

It's only the 16th...

Run isn't until the 28th. Then again, I am just waking up and can't see straight yet.

Jon

CRRRRAAAAP!!!!
I thought it was this past weekend!:o

:p Perhaps you have been sniffing those welding fumes and you jumped forward in time? I am glad I still have about 2 weeks, I have a bunch of stuff still to get done. Can't wait to see how my truck does out there. I must say, I have been enjoying reading up on your 40 build up. It is looking really good.

:lol:LOL

There are LOTS of fumes to be huffed right now.
Youll be fine in that rig on that trail.
I donno how I thought it was last weekend though.

Looking forward to this trail. Seems like a long time since I ran it but it was just last year. I heard it is all cleared out for downfall. Will be at Woodfords at 7:45.:steer:

That sucks Dan.

The idea of new tires disgusts me. They are all expensive now.

Jon

I'm not going to make it, the 40 is on the bench until I replace the tires. :frown:

You've got 3 days mister....Shouldn't be any problem for a man of your talents to change 4 tires..

Does this mean the Death Wobble will be cured?

My wallet does not agree with your hypothesis.:flipoff2:
I am 100% certain the DW will be cured with new tires.

Saying that pretty much assures that the DW will not be cured doesn't it?

I'm out as well. Didn't get anything done to prep this week for this trip.

Well, I had a blast for my first 'real' off road trip. Here is how the day progressed, more or less.

My friend Tony and I arrived at Woodfords around 720am, we were the only ones there. Wind was blowing pretty good. 730 came and lots of various vehicles started showing up, but no cruisers. As we had left Fernley at 600, wasn't sure if any more had decided not to come. Started to get worried as 750 came and then saw Mark show up in his red 40. Few minutes later Sean showed up in his mustard 40. We chatted for a few minutes then headed out.

Mark led the way with Sean bringing up the rear. We aired down once we got to the trailhead and discussed some of the obstacles. Well, first one was pretty impressive to say the least, well, at least to me it was. Sean & Mark both did a good job helping me through that. My friend got some decent pictures of me going through, I will post a few later. I had a few close calls with almost tagging the roof or rear windows, but didn't do any major body damage. I had a few scuffs and pinstripes, and a couple spots on my fender flares that got scuffed too. My Metaltech sliders got a good workout with the cat skid taking some abuse, the rub rails got some scrapes too. The IronPig skid got a few scuffs as well. 4x4 Labs bumper got tagged on the driver corner due to me backing into a rock after I had to move out of the way of a bone stock Jeep Grand Cherokee on street tires. As he approached me I heard him say damn, thats a F*&(!$ Lexus, he asked me how the trail was treating me, I said just fine, he said that the trail was #@$%@%(* his truck all up. Really? bone stock with street tires, I wonder why. I should have taken a picture of that.

It did snow up at the top when we were airing up, just a few flakes, but still, snow in August, that was fun.

All in all, I had a blast as my first real trip and would like to thank Mark & Sean for doing a good job spotting me through some of the more difficult spots. I found some damage that I didn't know I had, I had bent the driver side rear lower control arm, has a nice bend to it now. I think I got this on that big rock pile that Mark guided me up on, but could have been anywhere.

Thanks again guys,

Jon

Glad you guys had a good time, sorry I couldn't make it.

Thanks for posting up the pictures.

That is SUCH a great trail!
So what did you think about it as far as difficulty was concerned?
IMO, its a lot harder than most give it credit for. There are some spots that will bite you if your relaxing.

Glad you had a great time and that it was a positive first experience for you.

Thanks for posting pics and the write up.

Most of the SLACKERS on here wouldnt do that!:D:flipoff2:

OME Heavy.

Was supposed to be 2.5 inch lift, but with all the armor I am running, it probably sits a bit lower. I have ARB front with M12000, Metaltech Sliders, IronPig skid, and 4x4 Labs rear. Tires are 315 Toyos.

Jon

Thumper, what lift are you running?

Thanks
Keith

I was seriously thinking that there was NO WAY my truck could do that kind of thing. But, I twisted the dial and off I went. I think my truck is a lot more capable than I thought it was. I think my main problem is the driver is not as capable. But, with experience and time, perhaps that will change.

As far as difficulty, what is the trail rated? 1-5? I went to Rubithon a few years ago as a passenger in an FJ40, so I can't really compare that. I also walked a lot of the trail taking pictures. It is a lot different as a driver.

Oh, I almost had several bites when I got cocky thinking hey, I am doing good, I can do anything and then almost munched the drivers side rear corner of the roof. Sean said I almost took out the back window on another spot lol.

It was a blast and I am looking forward to doing it again once I get the control arm replaced/reinforced.

Was my pleasure for the words/pictures. I could have actually written a lot more, but I thought some might find it boring so I abbreviated it.

The jeepers sure had me laughing though, that was a good part of the run.

That will cure you of wanting a spot from me.

Seriously, you got thru most of hard stuff on your own. Very impressive skills for your first trail run,and your rig is very capable. More lift? maybe. I was envious of the closed cab. Very cold drive there, even with two heaters on high.
Thanks for posting the pictures.

Thanks for the kind words Mark. Yes, the enclosed cab was nice. I just need to get a air compressor for the next trip. Thanks again for letting me use yours. It would have been dicey getting back to Minden to air up. You guys did a helluva job spotting me, I think that helped me through a lot of the other areas in where to put my front tire knowing how my suspension would work through a given area. That big rock ledge was the harder of the days obstacles, the other was the tree section that Sean helped me through.
