Hey guys struggling!

Just trying to wire the ignition switch into an EZ Wiring kit and got a few questions.

I've got a wiring diagram that shows me how the wires should be included in the connector (it's a genuine fj40 diagram) and it includes the following wires 1) Acc 2) IG 3) ST1 4) ST2 and 5) AM.

When I look at the connector on the steering column I only have a 4 pin connector.

I have all the EZ wires clearly labeled but unsure what colors match up with the FJ40 diagrams. I can see the Orange EZ is Acc, the pink EZ is Coil (is this IG or ST 1 or 2?) Purple EZ is starter (ST1 or 2)

If I'm following the FJ diagrams then where does AM go? What is this wire?

Also I have LR, BY, BW and BR coming from the switch... LR looks like ACC, BY = IG, BW = ST what does BR link to?

Any tips would be appreciated

Potential Solution

Plenty of lookers but no replies yet

I think I may have a solution

After plenty of searching and reading just about every forum online where people have tried to use the EZ/ Painless in something other than a GM this is what seems to be recommended

1) Splice the IGN SW IGN and IGN SW COIL wires together, this reduces the 5 wires into 4 that will fit in the standard 4 wire connector coming from the ignition.

2) To answer my own question about what is the Black RED Wire, its the AM wire, if you look at the schematics about this wire looks like it was White BLUE but somewhere along the lines it was changed to Black RED (or was BR but is now WL)

My FJ was made from a combination of 3 different trucks so I have no idea what bits and pieces they used from each which can make it a little scary when ordering parts as I have to hope the main bits are from a 79 model.

Can't check till I get home but hoping this will be the solution

I have a question about my coil but I need to do a little searching before I put it up as it may be very obvious but having no real idea about wiring before starting all this off, I'm trying my best to learn before asking

I used an EZ wire kit on my '72, but I installed an aftermarket ignition switch. I can take a look at the wiring, but I think it was a four-wire connection on the back of the switch (ground, ACC, On and Start). Let me know if the switch information would help and I'll pull the switch and look at the EZ wire connections.

Thanks

Let me go home and try make some adjustments that I discovered today and ill see if that makes a difference or not before I need to start looking at whats next.

When I was looking into the actual switch itself it looks like my old friends (PO) have cut and soldered all sorts of weird and wonderful things on everywhere so I've ordered a new ignition switch just to make sure.

By the time I get this thing back on the road about the only thing that I won't have modified myself will be the shell!
