Hi Guys,

I have done a search in the 70 tech and gone through all the pages but found little information regarding my question below.

The 79 series ( and 78 ) does not have a dash clock, it is supposed to be displayed on the stereo instead. In its place is a poorly IMO blanked off insert.

I have the OEM casette/CD/FM/AM stereo which I wish to retain. In the manual it states push program button 4 and the search button simualtaniously to display the clock.

It doesn't work, I tried everything including pulling silly faces and cursing :censor:

I liked the clock I had in a 75 series troopie I owned previously. So to my question..........

Is the wire loom connections still there to install a clock form a older model ?

Anyone had their dash apart and noticed the empty plugs ?

:)cheers NT

A bit more research and I came up with the part number....

83910-60070

But at $422.69 I may be sourcing one from a wreckers !!

hey NTF i feel your pain ive been through the same thing. my clock did work on my OEM stero but i ditched the stero in favor of an ipod compaitble one, now no clock and when i approched the parts delaer and said i want a clock he said no you dont and told me the price i agreeded at no i dont want one at 450 bucks. But yes the plugs are def there just have to get one from a wrecker.

i put a 2nd hand one in my 75 ute was just a plug in
i wonder if the plugs would be the same between 75series 2 79 series the
i see clocks on jpn imports have more buttons maybe for alrm or somthn

I noticed during research that some clocks did list a alarm button.
Maybe the alarm is to remind yourself to go home and visit the family once in awhile ;)

How did you go with the clock mate

stuck at work

Hi Clint,

I am still away at work in West Africa ....just done 19 days only 17 to go, waiting at home for me is my new rims and a clock.
my lovely :princess: wife picked them up from Toyota a few days ago.

Can not wait to get back and get stuck into the projects on my cruiser. And go for a fish:)

As soon as I complete them I will do a post.

Roland,

Did you remove the "before" blank from the front or did you access it from underneath / behind to remove ?

Is there a section of wiring missing ?

Thanks NT

I remove the part of plastic and insert the clock from behind the panel.

The wire conection I doný make it yet.

Thanks guys for all your info and suggestions.

I have just completed the clock installation...so yes it can be done.

Due to availabilty and price (459.00 AUS dollars )I ended up with a second hand clock, I will be chasing up one in better condition due to ease of installationas a small scratch is on the face of the current clock.

It was a easy installation and took approx 30 mins.
I have added a few pictures and here a a few tips.

Tools required - Phillips head screwdriver

Hardware - Clock and 2 Phillips pan head screws 5mm x 8 gauge

Note : removal of all top (6)and bottom (6) facia screws required - dont forget the hidden one above/behind the cigarette lighter ! :o
It is best to remove the facia around the radio also to aid access and removal to a wire loom clip, this enables the clock plug cable more reach during installation whilst the lower facia is out and the clock installed.

It is an easy job, just take care not to overtighten screws on re installation of the facias and not to pinch any wires. I did my installation with the power on but for safety it may be best to disconnect the power :meh:

At 459.00 AUS dollars I think I would consider buying a cheap watch and just call it a day. :D
