hmmm .. so polishing the patina post wash and clr wash... on the surface rust patina areas as well...?
Yep…maybe a couple attempts at CLR. just keep rubbing until it is done cleaning up. Then wax it. Then wax it again. Use hard wax not liquid. Paste wax even butcher block wax works well. I was playing with patina back in the early 2000’s with Volkswagen buses and this is the best way to just preserve what you have. Clear coating and adding “coatings” of any sort on top just makes for a problem to remove when you have to keep the maintenance going. It requires maintenance. Add it to oil changes and valve adjustments. Ha!

expectations are the number one cause of disappointment.
All lights are working, turn signals, flashers, brake lights, headlights, tag lights, etc... all the gauges work... all the fans, wipers, and cig lighter work... my dome light has a broken switch, I'm going to see if I can repair that somehow...
Bled the brakes today, and the right rear definitely needed it... bled all four corners, and WOW, I actually have brakes now... going to check for fluid leaks tomorrow...but for now....
I took advantage of the good karma, poured about four more gallons of gas in the tank, and fired her up... the clutch works great and so into 1st, and travelled the length of the small lot where I have it parked...slipped it into reverse, and all systems go....
tomorrow it's around the block once or twice to see how the front end is and see what shakes out.... I'm hopeful no major issues... checking for leaking brake cylinders... then finally get to cleaning out the door panels.... before she gets her first bath in I don't know how long...... continued good fortune...

The guy in Yemen has new OEM dome lights. Just FYI. Excellent progress by the way.

Turning out to be a drivable truck pretty quick.
I'm surprised as well... and fortunately w this one someone had taken pretty good care to keep it original, w the exception of the tailgate window crank.. grins.. but it's pretty much unmolested ..the motor/carb/gas tank is still a question, have to see how the trips around the block go and continue to check the fuel filter content for debris and rust flakes, non so far.. same with the brakes, but I think the clutch issue is handled.... not much rust, so...

this is my fourth LC brought back to life...my 82 40, I had a dead 83 40 that's now in SC I believe, and then the red/white 77 pig from Sunrise, Arizona, and now this one from Miles City Montana.. I'm retired and don't play golf.. grins.. Needed to develop an active hobby and this surprisingly turned out to be very fulfilling..

plan is to stick w getting the mechanicals dialed in to go to some pig parties...and let the patina show itself well...

Thanks WarDamnEagle... gotta decide what to do w the seats... both front and rear are in dire need of some covers/attention.... but I've got to stay on board w the mechanical plan for now... and the wash, CLR bath, then decision on whether it's paste wax, fluid film, or penetrol...if that's my biggest problem I'm ok.. grins..

I'm leaning toward the blanket for the rear seat... it's got some age/sun and wear deterioration, but kiddos are gone and it's in much better shape than the front..of course... But the front cover is shredded, and the padding is worn out/gone, and the springs are visible at the driver's seat...

my thought is the 77 red/white has SOR seat covers from a PO, and the rear seat looks new, w/some fading and wear on the front, but otherwise GTG.. thinking order a front seat cover and pad from SOR, install it on the green/white front seat, and then swap the seats placing the newly covered seat in the red/white and the R/W into the G/W, with a blanket on the rear seat of the G/W...

the R/W 77 is the Starbucks queen... but I want to drive the G/W to rallies, etc and don't want metal springs leaving grid patterns on my butt... LOL

gotta get the dirt out of the door panels today and get some FF in there...

Wish I could take credit!! Cruiserjunktion just knows sh*&! Grins... but thanks... and thanks for the affirmation on the drill, tap, and plug..
Question, what size drill bit, tap and plug do you suggest... couple of opinions in the threads I've read..
Shoot, I do not remember. I would pick your favorite write-up on the topic, see what they did, and then at the moment of truth - make your own decision.

Update on the tailgate.. Skreddy sent me a tailgate innard(s) w motor, and the dash switch, and some other smalls .. tested the motor and it was working in both directions... I pop open the gear housing to check it's condition and it is beyond deteriorated... grease on it was hard as asphalt...the teeth on the plastic/nylon gear were actually rubbed/ground off... But I had purchased an extra gear from Ridgeway and after cleaning everything got it installed... Next step was to reattach the motor and gear assembly to the regulators... got that figured out looking at my other 77 pig.. ran more tests prior to assembly into the tailgate... working great.. reattached the wiring and nothing from either switch... I know nothing about electric current, but stumbled my way around and thru the process of elimination and discovered the original wire used as the ground was not giving it the contact needed... fixed that, double checked all my connections...and reinstalled the battery in the truck.....
went to the tailgate switch, and YES, I have an operable tailgate window,,, went to the dash, and YES, it works as well... so many thanks to Skreddy, and to Gary's rear window read... Really good day...
gets better...
I replaced the top radiator hose, and cranked her up for the first time in a week,,fired right up and ran great... I had installed the new clutch master and slave, and flushed w new fluid, but had not tested the tranny w the motor running... It came time to see if it would go in gear.. Heck Yeah... ! I went forward about three feet, in first, then tried reverse... and no grinding, no hesitation, no problems..... A really good day...

brakes are really in need of some attention ,,which I'm offering as the reason I only went 3-5 feet in the truck ..., I think the left rear brake cylinders are leaking as evidenced by the liquid stains coming out of the drum on the inside of the tire wall.. Cruiser outfitter package got here today w a new set for the rear... so those go on this weekend...

She's coming along... gonna snap some pics tomorrow as an update... I love getting into and under that truck...
Woo Hoo!!!

Not implying that you are a blind squirrel.
And not saying anything about your nuts...

Have you adjusted the brakes? If you think the bleed makes the brakes feel good, wait until you adjust.
It is a special task, and requires patience, esp when we have dual cylinders, but it is the way to solid (drum) brakes.

Haha.. agreed... adjusted my red/white rears after installing new rear wheel brake cylinders... but gotta be done... not sure they're perfect but it stops well... I put 60 knuckles and steering arms w the 2000 four runner discs, calipers and pads on the front...

going to just replace the rear wheel cylinders and get the drums turned on this one (green/white) ..

Grins... there is very little you can say about me that is not true today, or was true when I was younger, or was true at my worst moments, or has some variation of the truth !! grins

So it's going to rain for the next 4 days here in NE FL... Had to get the interior door panels and rear quarter panels cleaned of the accumulated dust/dirt /debris before it became a mud pie... Truck is outside for now under a cover but doing the small steps to keep it from rusting.. everything in the panels is cleaned out... gave them all a good drenching of Fluid Film... including the tailgate ...
