I have a 75 series snorkel that has an aftermarket "Safari series" head which is one size too large. To make it "fit" , the head has to fit over the snorkel tube and looks like ****. Is there a US source for a Toyota or Safari Series head that will fit my older version snorkel? Looks to be about 2 3/4" diameter.
Thanks

Dang Carl, I had to run outside with a flashlight to make sure mine didn't look like sh*t. Then I remembered neither one are Safari. :)

I had a used Folgers coffee can with holes in it I used for holding grasshoppers when I go fishing, so what the heck, that should work fine for a snorkel topper and baling wire would secure it to the tube. I was going to send a pic to Charles for his approval but I went ahead and made the executive decision to abandon the idea. I ordered the Toyota product from Onur, it should look better don't you think? thanks guys :)

You decided against the cricket can and bailing wire ..... I now suspect the validity of your Southern heritage.

Considering what I have been through the last 3-4 years starting with Proffitt's fiasco and now my current builder, humor is my only way to keep my sanity!!:(

Beer and a quiet place also seems to help. :)

How far are you into it now? Did you change vehicles,I think you started off with a 75 series cab chassis?

Roscoe, you have a good memory. I started out with a 79 series body at Profitts, bought a motor out of Japan and parts from here to hell and back. They sat on it for seems like over a year. They were building Yoopers at the time and I was second in line. I actually drove to Colorado(900+ miles) one way to see for myself what they had done. NOTHING, NADA!!! Jeremiah wasn't even there to discuss it and he knew I was coming. Several months later they started working on the bumpers and trying to fit the cab on. Price jumped about $20K overnight from original estimate and nowhere near complete.
I bailed out and bought a 1985 HJ75 several months later, gathered more parts from here to hell and back and waited almost a year for my body guy to find time for the complete rebuild. Aug 15th will be one year it has been sitting at his shop, 99% of the time outside, uncovered. I would go by weekly to check on any progess andwrap a tarp over the cab. He finally did some painting which has to be redone and one of his bozo's pulled the steering column out and CUT all the wires because he thought a newer one would look better, never mind it wouldn't fit. 5 chapters later and unbelievable stories about them losing parts and me re ordering new parts (for the second time) and it's still nowhere near finished.
Had a "Come to Jesus" talk with the owner and he said he can't get any help to do QUALITY work. Has fired more employees in the last year than the previous 26 years in business. Sooooooo, he is showing me what to do and I am putting this cruiser back together one piece at a time. He's going to repaint it and re wire the entire vehicle and I'm doing the rest. I'm working at nights and on weekends and actually having fun doing the work myself although it is frustrating not being knowledgeable about mechanics. I wish I had HALF the knowledge that Alberto has, I'd get this thing done proper!
If it wasn't for Charles and Alberto, there's no way I would have stayed with this project. I gave up and was going to post on here for sale at giveaway price but they encouraged me to see it through and would all be wroth it. I hope they are right, to be honest, the luster wore off a long time ago.

A small update from the parts point of view.....

Looks like the snorkel topper from Toyota is for the later 7x series vehicles with the bigger opening.

The part that is needed for the earlier trucks (1980's) is 17730-61030: This is part that cannot be sourced through Toyota USA. Would need to be sourced from abroad.

Carl, While the process is painful, the end result will yield the coolest truck in Texas. * :)

* Perhaps even the second coolest 75 Series in the U.S. : )

Carl, Have you considered this route?

Charles, where did you find that assortment?
Toy, My truck is of course the "old style" snorkel. I can trace you out a template but I ordered a new snorkel and it is for the 79 series and I would have to cut the fender and cover/drill new holes. If you haven't cut your body yet, I have a brand new 79 series snorkel I will sell you at cost. Let me know if you need the template and be happy to make one for you.

Your a patient man, I would've tolerated 2 weeks without action on their behalf, if nothing had started, take it elsewhere to someone who wants your work, there are a lot of dickheads in the market place that promise and deliver jack. Excuses like poor help, only reflects on the owner character for attracting monkeys and running a shop, piss him off, and find someone new,
you'll have more appreciation for your rig if you learn you way around, and attempt as much as you can,

Supposed to be a 5 week project and coming on a year. I was patient for the first 8 weeks, then mad and finally resigned that I was back in the 'Proffitt's trap' AGAIN!
