I have the same heater in my 1/73.

This picture also shows the one-of-a-kind cowl vent knob, with linkage bent to avoid interference with the radio.

Do you know which if the TC shifters shown is for a 79 fj40 (4 speed)?

Not sure any of them are from a 79. The top one on the lug wrench is from a 475-7/80 range. I show a part number change 1/79. Unless it's out of my 79 which I'm not sure it is. The 79 is at another location and believe the shifter while removed is still in the vehicle. The thread for the knob changed 8/80 to the size the one used on the 60 series. The one below it is from either 8/80+ FJ40 or HJ47, both with a four speed.

@lelandEOD What is that inspection cover from?

I'm sure the ship has sailed on your decision to step down to a 4-speed due to the frame crossmember.... but you should check out my old build thread to see how I solved that problem when I replaced my 3FE/H42 with a 1HZ/H55. :)

This was actually pretty common part that continued on for years in markets without a heater. Show a part change 1/79 but later one was a sub for the 9/72-1/79 version. Haven't located one for my 73. PO installed A/C before I bought it and removed the front heater and rod for the vent.
The 5 speed might be back in the mix.

I tried to buy one of out of Australia. Knew it was from a 70 series just not which one. I am curious how it fits on the 73-78 transmission cover. Looks like boots to fit this cover are still available.

I seen one like these cover on an Australian site. Wasn't sure how it would work or what 70 series it from. I'm dealing with 1/79 plus and will use 10/82 and later 40 series inspection covers. I am curious how the 70 series cover fits on 73-78 transmission cover. I know there was someone making an after market transfer case shifter for the late FJ60. I am also wondering if the 8/80 and later 40 series four speed transfer case shifter would work with this set.

Bottom left is from a 87 FJ60. You can see the transfer case shifter is further forward. 70 series cover is pretty much in line with the transmission shifter. The bottom right is 10/82 plus four speed cover. The earlier four speed are straight across as well but those angle back. 8/80 were straighter.

Interesting my previous post was showing and thought forgot to and it was gone.

Sadly, a step back this week. The 4 spd I was planning to use is a total loss. Working with Georg at cruiser brothers on a replacement solution.

Just a reminder, ethylene glycol is extremely deadly to cats. A couple laps or a teaspoon will kill them. Please dispose responsibly.
Hopefully this isn’t experience speaking.
Remind us dolts what, where and why ethylene glycol is and where it may be encountered in relation to LandCruisers.

Or maybe, just say “antifreeze” (looked it up, because me have the smart).

One of the chief reasons I loathe dealing with my cooling system is that I have to schedule an appointment with the city to have is disposed of.

That and burping.

It’s lethal to pretty much all animals. Dumping it on the ground is an abomination.

Yet there is another thread on the forum that if I read correctly, seemed to be exactly that practice.

I make every effort to be responsible with my fluid waste, brake/ps fluid and coolant are my least favorite to deal with.

I know for old meds you want to get rid of is dump it into used cat litter. Not sure why that wouldn't work for antifreeze. Depending the amount may take a while to be sure it's absorbed into the litter. Use double bagged grocery bags.

Curious why it was a total loss? Gear damage or rust would be most likely reasons.
Yes, I too am curious.
Since you are at this unfortunate juncture, are you still going 4-speed? 5-speed?

Rust, had a bunch of water in it.

Edit- after talking with Georg, I found the Toyota heat treating spec on line. The gears are case hardened to a pretty small depth so a pit on a gear could actually be through the hardened part of the gear.
