71 FJ40. 98K miles. 3 on the collar. Work in Progress. $9,000. Weekend driver. Located in Philadelphia.
The Good: I have driven it for 5 years (weekend driver) and occasionally a weekly driver. Very reliable engine-wise and starts every time, sounds like a proper truck particularly with the headers. Totally unique truck. Mostly original but for- aluminum tub from the late 70s, new exhaust header through tail, new battery, clutch 2 years old, master and slave cylinder and brake lines, 4 wheel disc brakes, replaced blinkers on front bumper, tires 2 years old (have original wheels), went through frame and cut and repaired all rust, new back bumper, webber carb (best decision I made but also have the original), engine was ceased when I bought- had all work done including cylinders, fuel and water pumps 4 years old, replaced mirrors. Have original tool kit/jack and maintenance books.
The Bad- Body rust above the tub, all seals on windows and doors need replacing, drivers seat needs to be recovered, odo does not work, trim pieces such as glove compartment cover missing, rear hatch strut broken,
The Ugly- 3 speeds as most know are tough to drive, its a gas hog, there is always something to fix but thankfully unlike my 70 series the issues are usually easily resolved, body rust is not terminal but someone will have to go through and cut/patch.
I am looking for feedback on a fair sale price in addition to any offers. I have done the research but as you know there's a wide range but I generally know what it is worth. I know what I have spent and have no illusions of breaking even. If I get a good enough offer I will let it go. I will answer all questions as best I can. I am not an amateur mechanic so all work to the truck was carried out by a couple of mechanics.
