Looking for ideas for a rear shelf and storage for camping and winching gear.
All this gear all ready resides 24/7 in the back of my 73 but I am looking for better ways to organize it. The 3 plastic boxes double as seats , tables and on the rare ocassion have even used one as a bath.

Thanks

I think you're on the right track with building a cabinet framed storage unit. Avoid using 2x4 though, maybe plywood with 1x1 nailer strips. Take measurements and draw yourself a plan.

BTW, the two pictures look like one for a second, and it looks like you have a serious suspension problem! :)

I was using 2x4 because 2 people will be sleeping on top
I used 1x1 last time when I built one for another truck and it was too flimsy (12mm plywood) when people were on top of it.
I wanted to avoid building a cabinet because I found I lose a lot of space.
I was thinking of using 4 legs made from 2x4's

If you are not going to use the rear seat you should just take it out and that will give you a little more room :)

Thats a good idea and I can strap my kids to the roof carrier.
Hmmmm......the wife.......now that is a good idea!

Thanks

They are stock on my truck , mine is the ZX grade .
Not sure if they are stock on all.

Stone The roll cage is factory and they started fitting them in 85 for Australia and Europe.
They are very unintrusive and I hardly notice mine

Robs is the 1st one Ive seen on a JDM 74
I can probably put you onto an aussie wrecker who has them.
The ones Ive seen in the trader mags were advertised at $2-300 AUD but they dont come up very often.
You also need the rear seat from the same spec vehicle if you want to use the shoulder belt.
If you want some close up pics PM your email.
