70 series front fender ?

Hello everyone,I am doing some paint repair on my 89 BJ74 and was wondering about the rubber strip between the upper and lower front fender sections.Almost every 70 series I have seen the rear 25-50mm of this strip just before the doors looks as it has been pulled out,is this a result of car washes,power buffers or has it slowly been pushed out over time from body flex.Both sides are pushed out on my truck almost the same amount,any thoughts?????

Jim it shrinks over time,mines the same .I always use it as a pointer to resprays ect
