I was going to the post office last week and spotted this cruiser, and I got him to pull over so I can take a better look, then the guy was nice enough to meet up with me and let me take some pics of his cruiser. The model is a BJ73. He imported it as a 1982 but tells me it is a 1992, something about having trouble with the paperwork getting it thru customs. The owner was working in Guinea, Africa and the body and chassis was brought there from Switzerland, and thats where he restored and put in the 22RE 4 cylinder gasoline engine. It has solid axles, a manual locker in the front, the FRP top comes off, which wasnt even available in North America,(basically the same material used on a Jeep hard top) revealing a roll cage, and the front windshield is hinged to fold down like a Jeep does. Its also a 5 speed. Definately one of the sweetest Land Cruisers ive ever seen. If it were mine, I'd repaint it desert dune beige, get rid of those poser wheels and that hunk of chrome off the front. What do you guys think of it?

get him to one of our meets and join up!

Looks awesome Shannon, I wonder what was going through his head as you were frantically waving for him to pull over. Thankfully he wasnt from Prescott and packing heat!

last 3 pics, he also said he has another 70 series he imported, but its shorter, same color.

he says he gets the attention alot. Oh, if we were driving in Prescott, both of our cruisers would of been riddled with bullet holes!!

Super sweet rig either way!!! Nice catch Shannon

Risky business, what he's doing. Seizure if caught. If I (my wife) ever do replace the 80 (lets me buy another truck), it'll be with (I'll beg her to let me get) a 70 of some sort.

FYI It is not a BJ73 but an LJ73. AKA Prado or Bundera. Has the 2lt and minitruck axles on coils. I'd love to get a hold of a set of those knuckeled wiper arms for my BJ74.

I once had an outlaw LJ73 myself. (decorated here for a Christmas Toy Run)

I thought for sure I read BJ73 on the nameplate, the one on the firewall. I know nothing about the 70 series.

Obviously you weren't paying attention at CM? Glen and JDM Norm wheeled with us in their '70s, theirs are the rattly/stinky type.

That's likely how it got registered as a 1984. They made BJ73s in 1984.

I guess I wasnt paying attention, dont remember seeing that one there.

ok, 2.

Sweet but that's got to be a slow mofo with a 22re

That's because those trucks weren't full of innocent little boys. You'd have damn sure noticed them then.

pipe down, grown ups are talking

I can see where you’d be getting skittish, what with the horny guy on your ass all the time.
