Are there any 70 Series Cruisers out there that meet the legal requirements for U.S. import? Preferably with turbo diesel and A/C / RHD or LHD / Not looking for a project..............Thanks, 1978HJ45

Thanks....There is currently a Colorado based BJ70 on Ebay but to call it rough would be an understatement. Thanks for the tip however.........1978HJ45

SORRY! I just found the one on fleabay and am slightly embarassed I refered you to it. It is the same one. Rough is a kind word....

That is Rusty, my old BJ. I found it this morning on ebay.

You will be looking at 85-87 Canadian-spec BJ70s. None were turboed or had AC. If you find one you can add them. Search the importing thread, its been talked about a lot.

Does anyone know if the 3B has enough power to be a daily driver? I assume there will be more choices with the 3B than there are with the 13B-T. I would also appreciate hearing from anyone who has added A/C (especially to a RHD model)
Thanks...................1978HJ45

I have a few BJ70 some with A/C some with out, some Turbo Some without, in both Right and Left hand drive, so here is some infor for you:

If you live in a mountainous area and you are looking for a 3B you really need to make sure it is turbo'd or you will not be happy with the results. If you are just looking for a daily driver and no any big hills or moutains, and you are not looking to lead the pack than the 3B will be fine. I am assuming you are talking about a 3B in a 7x series?? all my advice is based on that that assumption.

You will not find any BJ70's that had factory A/C that came out of Canada, some will say they did exists but I have never seen one with that configuration from Canada, same can be said with the factory sunroof.

The 13B-T is a fine engine but I really have not found it to be any better or worse than a 3B turbo'd for that matter the same can be said for the 3BII. If you are looking for power or potential you would be far better off getting a 1HZ over a 13B-T they have about the same power and the 1HZ can be turbo'd and then it has far better performance, not to mention better cooling, etc, etc.

As far as a 3B with A/C they seem to work fine, you will notice a drop in HP if you are up on the hill os something like that but it certainly can handle the A/C with the 3B...Well I should mention that I only have that configuration with a turbo'd 3B however my BJ70 RT came stock with A/C and no turbo so Toyota is fine with it.

Hope that helps.

Cheers,

Michael

First of all thanks for taking time to forward the information. Secondly, you mention that you have several 70 Series Cruisers,
are they personal vehicles or are they vehicles you are selling?
I am in a fairly flat terrain and while acceleration is not that critical I need consistant road speeds in the 100 - 110 kph range.
Our Summers are very hot therefore A/C is critical
Thanks............1978HJ45

For what it's worth

I have two 40 series that run a 3B. One has a turbo & intercooler and is mated to a 5 speed while the other is a stock unit with a 4 speed. I have the turbo dialed in at 11 pounds and do notice better acceleration but the big upside is the 5 speed. The 3B with the 4 speed just seems to be screaming when traveling down the road at any speed in excess of 100 km/h (approx 60 MPH) while the 5 speed just purrs and whines (turbo) nicely.

FYI - the turbo I used came from a Ford TBird Turbo Coupe. Intercooler from a Volvo.

Sounds like a nice rig and thanks for the information...........

A 70 series available,or importable, into the US that has AC plus a turbo, or six cylinder engine, will be rare-if available at all- and consequently quite expensive.

70 Series

Money is no object......just kidding. I am very patient and do not have to have a turbo however A/C is a must because of the climate where I live. Hopefully something will show up eventually............Thanks.....1978HJ45

you can add AC, although it will take a bit to source some of the parts.

You dont say where you live. When I had mine, it sat for 5 months in the texas summer (105F/40C). AC is a must here.

Spallet is a local cruiser friend who has a sweet BJ70. He added AC and a turbo to the 3B, then yanked the 3B w/ turbo and dropped in a 14BT. It's what the BJ70 should have been.... He can get parts from out of country pretty easily (relatively) for these rigs.
