So the next day, we got up, had breakfast, packed up and headed back up the trail.
Rustydan lost his exhaust from the manifold back. The bolts came out. So we dug out some bolts to get it back together and used some electric wire to hold the rest in place and we were back under way.
From that point on, the obstacles on the trail became MUCH HARDER and more challenging, beginning with the hill going up to the look out at corporate crossing. We pulled over there for a bit to check out the flows. There were a few guys hanging out up there and one of them said "Keith?", It turned out to be this guy Ryan whom I had met on the We bilt trail repair on Fordyce. We chatted a bit and we moved on along the trail till we got to winch hill 3...
The actual winch hill looked to be a section on little sluce. Seemingly impassable except for a buggy.
The bypass was not much better looking. We let a group of mini trucks up ahead of us, and EACH had a tough time getting up the by pass cuz there was NO TRACTION to be had.
We found a line off to the FAR RIGHT of the trail. NASTY, but we all made it up witout incident. Mark had lost a body mount bolt on that obstacle and we stopped just beyond there and had some lunch. He ran a bolt up in his mount and we carried on.
Winch hill 4 was another NASTY section...
The quote of the trip was, "Hey, can you guys come tip me back over?" This was stated by Mark when he tipped over into a boulder. The boulder was the only thing that caught him from going COMPLETELY over into a FLOP!
We all hiked up to the pinnacle to see what a good line there would be...The was NOT MUCH. We found a line off to the right that if it was not hit exactly RIGHT, you'd slide off and basically be screwed. After a few stabs, Mark made it up. Dan took a few runs up, kept sliding off the line and was about to call it quits when he got up. I tried the same line...My width prevented me from being able to maintain the line they took, so I tried it a couple times and looked for a different option. I found one going RIGHT UP THE MIDDLE of the obastacle. Had to stack a rock for me to clear the diff and I was up and over. I was amazed that I got traction enough to do it. The MOST frustrating thing was the lack of traction. ALL this would have been relatively easy IF ONLY we could have gotten traction. Even walking the trail was treacherous cuz of loose dusty condition of the trail. I know I had lost my cool a few times because of it
Cruising along.... we got to another section of trail that was challenging, but nothing that any of us needed to stop and spot for. We then got word from Mark that that was winch hill 5 and we had just completed Fordyce trail.
The road IMMEDIATELY became a smooth gravel road and we were cruising along out to Meadow lake. We popped out of 4WD and Aired up at this little cabin right before the highway.
My impression of the trail after the SECOND DAY was 180 deg. different than the first. The last half of the trail was HARD! The obstacles were more frequent and overall much harder that tested you and your rig.
I was kinda bummed that the trail ended as i was wanting to keep going!!
A truly AMAZING TRIP and this has now landed it as my TOP FAVORITE trail! I wanna do it again and SOON!!
