I know its an odd topic but I've got to ask. Anyone else out there have a 62 without A/C? I bought my 88 in Alaska 3 years ago and wasn't too concerned with its lack of A/C ( it was special ordered in Fairbanks). I moved back to the states a few months ago and its now an issue. As I reside at the Grand Canyon cool air is a must. Anyone know of a conversion/ install kit? I'd ask the guys at cruizers.com but the past three questions I've had were ignored. I guess they are too busy writing about how great their rigs are to help folks with genuine problems. No its not a show rig, but a daily driver/trail-rig. Dents don't hurt and rust tries to last forever. Anything you've got would truely be appreciated.

no help, but damn it.......ya proved me right, AC WAS optional in 88 on fj62 in the US :)

I am sure all the wiring haress is there, just pick up all the missing bits and bolt em on, have it charged up. I think you will want a NEW dyer.

Thanks fellas, I knew that there were some truely friendly cruiserheads out there

We will be organizing some kind of wrenchfests after the sweltering and the sweating is over
this year. If you can live without it til then, we can help you out. Gives you plenty of time to
source the parts.
We == Copper State Cruisers, BTW.
We'll prolly hold this in Flag or Sedona the first time. But as our membership comes from other
parts of the state, we'll hold these in other parts of the state as well.

You can EASILY install A/C from a wrecked '60/'62. I did my '82 BJ60 and A/C was NOT an option for the BJ60 in Canada until '83 and even then it was VERY rare. Most all the wiring will be there. I may have a compressor mount in the garage. $20 + shipping and you can have as much of it as I can find! I'll even include the A/C amplifier from an FJ60.

You guys rule. Thanks for the info and if the fire season doesn't last too long I could be seeing some folks in Flag or sedona

I may have some info that may be helpful. I have a complete A/C set up out of a 60, minus the compressor. That includes radiator, condensor, fan shroud, all interior pieces, under dash pieces, just about everything you need. It is all sitting in a box here, with no where to go. I am moving into our new house in the next couple weeks and would LOVE to not take it with me.
Someone make me an offer and get it out of here. As far as I know, everything was in good working order when I stripped it.
Let me know.

I do not beileve that the AC from an FJ60 (2F) is interchangeable with AC from a FJ62 (3F). Compressors and belts, at least, are different. Check out the AC manual supplement in the FSM - the owner's friend.

I saw your post and figured I would register just so I could respond. Looks like I'm the 2nd guy with an '88 FJ62 without A/C. My truck was originally sold in Anchorage, AK and it didn't come with factory A/C. While living near Fairbanks, I ran across a used system from Man-a-fre.com and had it shipped up there. Total cost was around $300 for the system (condenser, evaporator, temp control switches, and compressor) plus about $100 for shipping. I've since bought a new receiver/dryer, expansion valve, and a few other odds and ends. I haven't started on the install yet because I wasn't sure how difficult it would be. It appears that everything will just bolt right on, the mounts and everything are there. I'm thinking also that the wiring harnesses were already installed at the factory.

I figure all I need now is to have some hose made, get some o-rings, comp. oil, belts and then have it charged. I just need to get started!!! Let me know if you have any questions. Seeing some of the replies to your post makes it seem less of a major challenge. All I need is cold air and I'm set!

The one oft overlooked part is a different blower relay. Non-A/C equipped trucks use a different relay from the A/C equipped trucks. The A/C relay actually sends power to the whole A/C system so without the relay it won't work 'cause the harness is dead.
