My 74s original engine ran hot and blew the headgasket and I'm probably in need of a head. I have a F parts engine from a 72 40 but I'm unsure if it will work on the .5f due to the newer oiling system of the .5f. I have no clue the build date of the 72 donor 40. I'm just wondering if it will work.

The F-head won't get oil without the pump-side configuration from the original pre-'74 F-block. An F.5-head can work with the old rocker system, just not the other way around, earlier heads need the copper pipe to feed it oil from the pump. This is my limited, and not hands-on understanding of the issue.

Thank you, that's what I was thinking but wasn't sure
