I have a RHD with a 5spd I am thinking of coverting it to LHD looking at the shifter from the passenger seat the shifter is offset to the right for the right hand drive.
To make it left hand compatable would I change the shifter or can I bend the shifter at some point so it will lean more to the side for left hand drive.
Were would I bend the shaft if it is possible down near the top cover, below the top cover,or the upper shaft itself.

The higher up the better as it wont disrupt the movement within the cut out of the body.
2cents.

Danger! If you have the two-piece shifter (it is fat), there is a rubber insert to isolate vibration. If you use a torch to heat and bend, or to weld after a cut, you will likely catch that rubber on fire.
Do yourself a favor and spend the $90 and but a new shifter.

That's exactly why I welded rather than torching and bending. It built up far less heat, and I could cool it off before it melted anything.

When I use a MIG welder, the metal gets almost as hot. When I lengthened my rear sway bar links, I didn't take the bushings out and they caught on fire.
