Seeking higher vistas
JJ, our friend from Colorado Springs Christian 4-Wheelers is the volunteer coordinator for getting "trail volunteers" up the mountain on Friday and Saturday, and back down off the mountain on Sunday. He's in need of additional drivers, so if you're interested and available, reply below and I'll get details to you.
I did this last year but am not able to do it this year. Basically, you would meet in Manitou Springs at a designated time, pick up two or more people and their backpacks (cargo), then convoy up US 24 to the usually locked gated 4x4 road that goes up to Barr Trail. Drop off the "trail volunteers" (they hike up to Barr Camp) and return back down the mountain road. On Sunday, it's the reverse....meet in Manitou Springs at the designated time, drive up "empty" and pick up the volunteers with their backpacks, and take them down the mountain to Manitou Springs.
