What is the best procedure for engaging the 4 wheel drive

When engaged is their a speed mph restriction?

The gx is full time AWD. to lock the center diff for "4wd" you have to be traveling at less than 5mph for it to enguage IIRC. To put the transfer case into low range (still AWD) you must be stopped. There is no speed limiter with the center diff locked, but it should not be used on high traction surfaces.

The Center diff lock button switches you from AWD to 4x4, this can be done at any speed in my experience. If it's slow to engage, abruptly letting off the gas, or even shifting to neutral can help.
