I have a 1989 FJ62. While I have ordered the FSM, it has not arrived yet. Today, I wound up not being able to get the 4wd disconnected.
I placed the truck into 4lo with the hubs locked. Then I unlocked the hubs and put it back to 2hi. The 4wd light remained on although the switch was in the off position. After jockying the range shifter back and forth several times to no avail, I checked for vacume at the switch and found it good. I unplugged the connectors on the switches on the firewall and it made no difference on the indicator. I then removed and checked the switches on the transfer case and they were not clogged and were operational, (no voltage or continuity was checked). Since I could not get it out of 4wd I removed the driveshaft to prevent damage.
Please advise of a test plan and component locations so I can fix this concern.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks, Bill
