Alright so today something strange happened. in my '89 fj62.

When I have the 4wd button out, the transfer cae should be disengaged, but it engages my tcase. With it pushed in it disengages the 4High system.

What could have caused this to suddenly change to this, because 2 days ago it was the opposite.

thanks

Have you been playing with any vac hoses?.
Swapping hoses to the vac shifter reverses the switching

Sorry if you already know this... The button position activates 1 of 2 soleniods located in your engine compartment up on the top on your passenger side firewall. Button out (4wd off) keeps the disengaging solenoid active always. If you switch the hoses around, button out will keep 4wd engaged. It's handy to know in case you are stuck in 4wd and have no spare solenoids (just swap hoses around and push the button. It sounds like the engage solenoid is flakey or you have a leak? I've no idea why they would reverse on you on their own.

If you don't want to do the mac valve mod, '86 camrys have solenoids in the same location with the same electrical connector. Many toyotas have similar solenoids but with blade-style connectors. I've heard some 4 runners have some with the same type roundish connectors but haven't seen any first-hand. Would like to find what they're for and see if Toyota charges $300 for them like they do for the FJ62.
